ATI Tool/CCC Overdrive Conflict?

Thread Starter
First off I'd like to thank this forum for being godsend. I've learned so much here and I am a better person for it.

So I've been using ATI Tool for my GPU for the last few months and everything has worked just fine with no problems.

Today I got a X1600pro 512mb and put it in my machine. I installed all the new Catalyst drivers and CCC, and when I loaded to CCC I noticed this new Overdrive thing. I "Unlocked" it, but then I thought it would be better to start OCing with ATI Tool, as it has never steered me wrong.

Here's my problem though. Whenever I move the slider in ATI Tool, it moves right back to default automatically. When I try to run either "Find Max" utilities, the program freezes. I thought that it was the CCC Overdrive "over-riding" the ATI Tool settings, so I ran the CCC Overdrive "Find Max" thingy and that worked fine. But I don't think that it's as good as ATI Tool, so I uninstall CCC thinking that without CCC to over-ride ATI Tool, ATI Tool will start running normally. It doesn't. I un-install ATI Tool, and re-install it, thinking that my old card settings might be interfering with the new card settings. No such luck.

And so I turn to you geniuses in my time of need. I'm pretty tired of the whole install uninstall reinstall charade here, so I'll save myself the time and sanity and try to get an answer from you pros. Thanks in advance.

The ATI hot key poller will do this. Go into Run and type MSCONFIG ...The Under Service's take the tick out of the box for 'ATI HOT KEY POLLER''

Turned off the Hot Key Poller and restarted the computer. Didn't work, it still goes back to default when I click "Set Clock". Thanks for the suggestion.

I'll try uninstalling everything again and running the driver cleaner. I'm not spending the night defraging though, I don't think that that's the problem. I had the newest ATI Tool installed, and ya, it worked perfect on my old card, I just wish it would start behaving for the new one. Thanks for your advice too.

When using DC ( Driver cleaning ) do the following :

Installing Graphic card driver efficiently!!! When you Update your graphics cards drivers theres ways that you should go about it. Follow these simple steps below.

1.Download and install ''Driver Cleaner'' Here:
http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.html
2.Uninstall your Current Display drivers such as your ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia'' drivers.
3.Now run ''Driver cleaner'' and depending on the Drivers you have you will have to select either ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia'' from the drop down menu. Only select the main title of the driver in the drop down such as just ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia''
4.Once you have selected Your driver click on the ''Start'' button and this will now start the driver cleaning process. ( Do this twice to be sure )
5.Now reboot your system and Download the latest Nvidia or ATI and go ahead and install them.

Doing this avoids driver corruption and conflicts so you can now enjoy smooth gameplay.

I don't have Driver Cleaner, I have EasyCleaner 2.0. It has a whole bunch of reg/temp/whatever cleaners in it. I'll DL Driver Cleaner too though just to be sure.

I never really use the CCC hotkey stuff, so until I find out whats wrong, I'll keep it off.
