Yeah, I personally wouldn't have an issue buying a card from eBay but the prices almost always go right up towards the end of the auction, meaning they're really expensive compared to forums.

Alright then, back to helping me find a solid card then.

This looks good to me, $70 after MIB (exactly $100 before)

Would 2 550ti's be a good idea, cause I know someone locally who'd trade for em.

I usually wouldn't recommend someone to get two cards straight away unless they're beyond the threshold for any single card (i.e. want to max all games at 2560x1440 with 60FPS) as it usually works out better to get a single card, then add another one in SLI or CrossFire later if they need to.

If you can get a good deal on a couple of 550Tis from a friend though, I'd say go for it. Not the best performing card on its own (perhaps 80-90% performance of a 7770) but if you're getting two of them that's a bit different.

Do you have to get both or can you just get one?

If you can just get one for the time being and add another one down the road when you would like more performance.

Your best bet would be buying something from someone on this forum who's a reputable trader. A 6850 if you can find it for $100 would be excellent or if you don't mind a noisy power hog get a GTX 470.
