New Build

Thread Starter
Hiya guys,

Thought I would pick the brains of guys in here,

Am looking at a brand new build in the new year with a budget of around £2000 (exchange rates make it almost $4k ).

Thinking at the moment suggests an E6600, 2gb Geil RAM and Seasonic M12 PSU all snuggled in a Lian Li V1100 case.
Still not 100% on Mobo, Graph card, though pretty sure that the Scythe Ninja will cool the proccessor, and possibly some Zalman cooling on the graphics.

Any suggestions or improvements, as I want a solid stable rig with O/C potential?

Thanks in advance

Take 1:

Net Total £1,526.49
Carriage £14.81
V.A.T. £269.73
TOTAL £1,811.02

The Lian Li case should bring it close to £2,000

I went for a single video card solution with a 8800GTX. This should be more than fast enough. I included a 20" monitor in the budget. If you have a good monitor (20" or larger) then you can change some other parts. However, if you have smaller than 20" right now, I'd highly recommend to get the bigger monitor.

I personally would go for the BigTyphoon over the Scythe Infinity as it does a great job cooling the CPU "and" the motherboard. You will find that the Infinity lowers the temperature of the CPU by a few degrees over the BigTyphoon but if you factor in the added benefit of the cooling of the motherboard by ~6 or more C then you might wish to go the route of the BigTyphoon. I sinked my Typhoon and changed the fan to a higher output and now it is also as good at cooling as the Infinity with the added benefit of a far cooler motherboard.

It's a matter of personal preference as I do NOT want to have an extra fan blowing over the motherboard and an Infinity. This way I have one fan and it works very well.

You have a point there. The BT will be a very nice cooler, esp. if you get the VX version or if you replace the fan with a more powerful one.

Nice one guys,

Plumped for the Scythe after community recommendations but will look at the Typhoon, though I need quiet solution as space is cramped and not overly confident on building a watercooled PC from scratch

Secondly,

Why that PSU? I was looking at the Seasonic M12 (700w), or do I really need that much wattage?

Seasonic M12 is more than enough

I guess I was looking at a possible SLI rig and then half way changed my mind because of the budget. Forgot to 'downgrade' the PSU

when money is no object[chances are your single]..lol
know what you want to do first[games that need sped or cpu, or memory]
go look at some benchmarks from some rigs tested, and see their highs and lows.
there are some smokin core2's out there benchmarking

3dbenchmark06 is in the sky with some.
as for sli, do you need it?
i play bf2, and cs and also use my rig for home theater, so i dont need big power.
my p4 3.0 runs at 3.6, and my [[dont laugh]]6600LE runs 462/1.02

make sure you set some cash aside for a nice screen[hd wide]
