Biostar 6100-939 NB-SB multi settings - Page 2

I re-worked my PCIe bus speed and found no improvement. 104-105 were the optimal settings. However, while doing some additional testing, I discovered that the system will not support a 2.5x HT multi. Both a 2.5x and 2x bios settings give an actual 2x speed. Not sure if it is a bios glitch, the opty not supporting 2.5x or because I am running at the lower NB/SB multi. I am currently using the most recent Rebels Haven modded bios.

Hope everyone is having a good evening....

After trying a few changes here and there, I found out a couple of things. Perhaps TheDuke can verify what I am learning whe he starts the build he mentioned earlier.

1) Lowering the NB/SB multi to 3x (3x HT) gave this board and the opty 165 good increases in FSB. My Max stable FSB at 4xNB/SB was 290 (at same vcore I have now). I am currently running double Prime95 stable at a FSB of 320.

2) The system was unstable with the same NB/SB and 320 fsb but with the HT at 2.5x. Interestingly the 2.5x setting actually dropped the ht to 2.x. Not sure if this is a bug in modded bios or what the reason is.

well polygon from Rebel Haven told me that to get over 250 mhz on that board, i should lower the NB-SB to 3x along with the htt multi.

Rebels Haven is where I first read to use the 3x setting on NB/SB. That is a setting change you don't see discussed much, so I wanted to learn what performance hit the setting change would result in.

I was suprised that there was no real cost in performance, but (for me) I gained over 10% on my highest OC at NB/SB 4x. Now I need to learn more details about all of the NB and SB interactions so I understand why it helped as much as it did.

try using the modded bios for that board. it might have a 3.5 setting. I don't remember where to get it- try googleing it. Even if it doesn't have a 3.5 setting, it's worth it cause adds a lot more options.

Frankly, I don't see the need for a 2.5x... the memory bus isn't all that picky.

Did you get to your 6100 build yet, The Duke? I am curious to see if you see similar results to mine. I would enjoy seeing how the two compare.
