AMD fx-8120 Time for a new CPU cooler?

Thread Starter
I'm looking to upgrade my CPU cooler due to some weird drops in FPS while playing games (UT3, ARMA 2, BF3, etc.) So far from watching my temps through speed fan, it seems like I am either not getting enough airflow, or my current CPU cooler just can't handle the heat. Granted I haven't checked my thermal paste since April, so maybe a new application of AS5 will do the trick.

Currently I have this installed on my board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134.

I will take any and all suggestions from current or past owners of this processor. Other thoughts are encouraged as well. Thanks in advance.

For air cooling Most OCN people voted for Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 140mm and 120mm SSO CPU Cooler . For enclosed watercooling a Corsair Hydro series. depending on case size and H100I or H80i will keep the cpu nice and chill.

NZXT Phantom Full tower, I'll check either of those out. I was going to try and do this as cheaply as possible, but Im sure I will convince myself otherwise while im in the process of deciding.

Bulldozer chips put out a LOT of heat so if youre wanting to hit max overclocks, youre gonna need something pretty beefy like the D14 or H100 or something of that caliber. I ran a Hyper 212 first and at 1.375V and 4.4 GHz, I was hitting 62C under OCCT. When I got my H100 the temps at those settings dropped to the low 40's! So if you want to do some heavy overclocking, youre gonna want to spend the money to get the best coolers out there.
