Easy HTPC Setup Update 1 - Page 2

I recently went down the same road as you did and although I had to purchase all the hardware the software part was free. I looked at several options and tried out a few and the one that I liked best was XBMC.

It runs on windows or Linux. and if you are not familiar with Linux they have some pre-bundled options that run on Linux but boot straight into Xbmc. (XMC-ubuntu or elec2.0 with xbmc v11)

hmmm..... for general pc knowledge i recommend you check NCIXTechTips and/or LinusTechTips on youtube. they are mostly unboxings and overviews but there are a bunch of tutorials for newbies.
for books idk :/ i don't really like books but if you need to read from paper just print thumb.gif

Are you buying this hardware? Or it's being given to you? I ask because all of it is quite outdated; even the stuff you have links to is discontinued on NewEgg. If you are buying, please list a budget.
