[KT/GS] The War Z REMOVED From Steam. Valve Offering FULL Refunds. (UPDATE) - Page 3

It felt like an Alpha. Not a piece of garbage. I prefer over Day-Z's janky ARMA engine any day. Just my opinion, but it does have potential. But why did they label it released I have no clue. This is an Alpha. As a full on release, it would be an embarrassment.

Gamespy did an interview with the Executive Producer about these recent claims. I honestly can't believe he went on record.

Here is a little taste of the interview.
Quote:
GameSpy: There's also the issue of the max players per server, which appears to be 50 in our testing but is still promised as 100 on the Steam page. It also claimed multiple areas of between 100 to 400 square kilometers, but delivered only one area of around 100 square kilometers. I'm sure that many people do enjoy playing The War Z, but the issue isn't whether it's a good game or a bad game. It's a matter of truth in advertising.

Sergey Titov: Max players -- I'm not sure why this is even an issue. [The] text clearly stated "up to 100 players." And 50 players [which] we have right now -- is what our players -- our community feels is comfortable level for them to play. We had it at 40, we've raised it to 70, and after that we've asked our players, "What you want this number to be for Colorado map?" Over 90,000 players took [the] survey and most of them said -- 50. This is why this number is set to 50 right now. Yet -- on your own private servers you will be able to set to 100 if you want smile.gif. Size of the area, once again, come on -- [the] first map is over 100 sq km smile.gif. So [the] text is right. And for our next big map, California, we're testing map size of 420sq km.

GameSpy: The original text, which was up for a day, claimed "A huge persistent world: The War Z is an open world game. Each world has areas between 100 to 400 square kilometers." "Each world" implies multiple worlds. "Areas" is plural, again implying multiple areas. It currently delivers just one area that does not approach 200km in size, much less 400. And do you not see it as a problem for the store to claim that I can play on a 100-player server, yet when I buy it, I am limited to playing on a 50-player server?

Sergey Titov: Okay -- if text is saying "up to 100 players" -- yes, I may imagine situation when somebody will say "okay it HAVE TO BE 100." "Over 100 sq km" falls in "100 to 400" right? Okay my point is -- online games are [a] living breathing GAME SERVICE. This is not a boxed product that you buy one time. It's evolving product that will have more and more features and content coming it. This is what The War Z is.

Nah.. I usually don't get into things like this but with that said, I've been playing and following Day Z for a long time. Our gaming community has been testing and playing for a while. Rocket (the developer behind Day Z) has said in the past that he was following the blatant knock offs. They would design a feature, then find it in the War Z beta/alpha. It's a cheap copy that was rushed to Steam to milk any profits possible. It is what it is.

The Day Z standalone will be here soon. Anyone who has played the mod off Arma II, will tell you, it's worth it..

Lol, refund petition....

Good luck with that. You're better off filing a claim with your Credit Card company.

I just wish it wasn't using ARMA II. That's why I have faith in Rocket's standalone. biggrin.gif

This is good for the time being. For an Alpha... redface.gif

That is what the second link is sortof for. You can ask for a refund and if they deny it then do a chargeback. DON'T USE PAYPAL!

I was holding off on WarZ, as the first pictures/videos of it I saw, the game engine seemed like feces (reminded me of other F2P engines, i.e. Combat Arms). After watching the Cynical Brit's review of it, it's just affirmed my opinions on it.

They took a crappy F2P FPS engine, slapped everything from DayZ onto it, didn't bother refining anything, and threw it out to the public. Ugly textures, bad performance, god awful animations... hopefully they learn from this and give her a good go-over.

As both a DayZ and WarZ player, I want a refund for my WarZ purchase. I bought it earlier in its alpha phase and was okay with its lack of features. Now that the game has skipped beta, It has got to basically be one of the worst full version games released this year.

There's also a reason I play DayZ over it, DayZ even with its problems, is a fully functional game regardless of what Mr. Totalbiscuit said about it in his WarZ video.

I believe the standalone Day Z is going to be using the Arma III engine, or something between Arma II and Arma III.

I tried screaming from the rooftops as soon as this game was announced, people said I was overreacting.

What was one of the biggest complaints on Titov's infamous Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing? Most of what the box said the game was wasn't even there.

Now what is the biggest complaint of War Z?

Game development is a creative process, you don't rush to capitalize on someone else's success because you simply can't rush games and have a decent result. Beyond that, there has to be some level of professional integrity to keep games moving forward. Titov and the developers that work for him have no place in the games industry, and I hope Steam recognizes this game was a fraud and refunds ALL purchases through Steam. Anything short of this and I'll have a mistrust of Steam moving forward.

And Twinkie, yes, Day Z standalone will be using a hybrid Arma 2/3 engine.
