[Online] 600 Series Firmware Modifier - Version: 0.7 - Page 22

I found the root cause of "problem" ... it's the difference in Kepler Boost value between cards ... the secondary one tends to add 39MHz more to Kepler boost than the primary one does (+117MHz vs +157MHz over stock boost of 980MHz), hence the higher TDP usage on it and more Power Throttling when it closes in on the limit (which happens way faster with a higher Kepler Boost value). had to compare them on stock BIOS with +0 offset and 122% Power target to notice that just now ... in fact I knew that before LOL, just it didn't occur to me this is causing the trouble all along here ... mad.gif

like this:

Unfortunately nothing can be done about it I guess?

From other news, I tried flashing BIOS with Max Power Target set at 200%, flash was successful, but the slider in precision was still showing stock max 122% instead.
On the other hand, I was able to flash Max PT at 170% and it shows correctly. testing now if it helps ... or rather the power limit will now come from the physical PCB design capped at 225W ...
that's even worse than I thought it would be ...

here's a Heaven 3.0 run with 170% PT and +0 offset (1202 max boost clock at default), the secondary card is already throttling power down to 1150MHz whenever TDP reaches 142% and TDP difference between them is now around 40% ... it sucks ...

I wish NVIDIA SLI for 600 series was also forcing the same lowest common Kepler Boost clock for both cards! otherwise it's purely ridiculous!
so I guess I have to stick with stock BIOS, since that one gives me less power throttling (minimum of 1228MHz with 122% PT in Heaven 3.0)

EDIT:
surprisingly, EVGA Tech Support responded to my support ticket/question and immediately approved this card for RMA ... I guess it only confirms that its behavior is in fact unusual and probably indicates a hardware fault after all ... wish me luck in the GPU lottery, hoping for a better SLI match this time! smile.gif

Yes but I don't think that alone is the answer and why nobody said it before .. your difference was 20% to 30% higher - that's not normal for a small KB difference like yours. Like I said on my post, I also see a difference but it's 3% to 4%, I'd guess this is why EVGA approved the RMA also (haven't actually checked your EVGA thread but let me know if wrong though).

yup, you are (I think) right, hence why EVGA was so quick in approving the RMA (I didn't even ask for it in my question). definitely must be something off with the card. took standard cross-ship, so should have new card before sending the old one out (now removed from system anyways, needed to attach standard air cooler to it).

Do you by any chance have the ability to explain the difference between voltage table 1 and 2. Right now I am just setting both to the same settings as I do not know which one does what.

Thanks... at least I am not the only one. Way back when this thing first launched someone asked for directions and there is just no explination of which one does what.

Oh well maybe some day smile.gif
