Sleek Build

What's up everybody!

Definitely starting a build as soon as humanly possible! Moved to Japan and joined the air force, so I wasn't able to build a TEC crunching machine, so i'm going to build something simple, nice and sleek! Here are the items that I are in my list of acquisition.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tBEh

I've already purchased the case and the drives, and the peripherals. I will be recording the build as soon as every item comes in.

There were a couple problems I ran into, and I had to go over to http://www.overclock.net/t/990633/the-official-thermalright-silver-arrow-sb-e-club/2850 to see if there was clearance for the PCIE slot. I may change my motherboard around to the maximus. I'd actually like to hear some input from y'all forum members!

Big thanks to the owner's forum for the quick reply! The people on these forums are for the most part extremely helpful, intuitive and thorough!

So, without further ado, I'd like to talk about my goals with this build.

Quiet yet great air flow and cooling, without using water cooling of any kind. (personal preference)
Incredible overclockablity potential, which from what I've seen with that cooler and the 8350, 5ghz isn't even stretching it's legs for it.
Above all. Pretty. Clean lines, almost like million dollar PC-esque.

I'll constantly be updating the pcpartslist, with extras if I see fit. I'm even thinking about going with delta fans on the heatsink, rather than those orange and red fans, though they're vibrant and crazy looking.

My first question... Why did you not go with intel?... is AMD just a preference? Not trashing AMD, but It kinda bugs me a bit when i see people spend so much money on a PC, and still get a CPU that's not as powerful to complement how much they spent.... I know you would have all the performance you need for gaming with your current cpu, but.... If you are going to spend that kinda money on a PC, at least go intel to make it more balanced, as they are definitely the better choice... "that's just my opinion though". smile.gif

Another issue i have is just the pc's case.. i work at fry's electronics, and i help people build PC's, and that case is slick looking, but for SLI... it's not really the best option for good air flow... But you already bought it so thumb.gif

Lastly......Why would you get SLI 680's, and a 60hz 1920*1200p monitor? tongue.gif. A single 680 can handle any game you throw at it at that resolution... I'll suggest you get a 120hz monitor, or a 60hz 1440p monitor, so you actually consume the performance you are paying for... That monitor will only output 60fps, and those two GPU's will play almost all games at 120fps+, so it's just a waste of money, unless you plan on getting 2 extra monitors in future for Nvidia surround gamming..

I like the ideas you through on the table. I can always buy another case, or just not buy two graphics cards, only one. If i were to go intel, i'd grab a 3570k, OC it to the depths of cthulu's existence, on air and at a safe temperature of course xD.

thumb.gif Looks really really balanced!, and you are going to save money "That's the best part" lol... Your case will do just fine... I can suggest something better, but it would be more pricey. If you would be placing your pc on the floor, I can suggest a good Full tower case. Mid tower cases are great, but if you would be placing it on the floor, then definitely go with a full tower. I bought the 600t because of it's cable management and good airflow (not the best though), but now i kinda wish i could sell it and get the NZXT phantom 820 biggrin.gif http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146096

For you, i would recommend the 650D, you can get it for lower price at ncix... it has excellent cable management, which will also help your airflow, it's just as good as the 600t (maybe even better)

If i were to go with a full tower, i would use a 800D. But, this build is going to stay mid tower, if i could, go to arc mini.

what you have now is pretty solid, so you don't need to change anything wink.gif imo

I'm using an old R2 modded for 140mm front fans. Define R series are great case. R4 has bigger fans, better cable management, more CPU clearance and removable hdd cage. I'm running 3x TY-140 fans; 2x front and 1x bottom with metal grills cut out of bottom and back to reduce noise and increase airflow. I also raised case up with a caster base so it has 50mm clearance for better airflow to bottom fans. When I was running i7 920 @ 4.0GHz opening front door dropped temps.. that was with 120mm fans. Now with i7 980 stock and 140mm fans max temp is below 50c @1000rpm in 22c room.

If you want quiet edit: case you might consider all PWM fans and use a PWM splitter with CPU fan socket on mobo for PWM signal and PSU molex plug for power. This will allow you to hook all PWM fans to same signal and they will all run same speed.if similar fans.

As for Silver Arrow SB-E, SA SB-E Extreme and now SA SB-E SE with TY-145 fans

http://www.thermalright.de/CPU+Kuehler/Intel+LGA1155%25252F1156/artikel/Thermalright+Silver+Arrow+SB-E+SE.html

And TY-147 fans

http://www.thermalright.de/Luefter/artikel/Thermalright+TY+147+-+140+mm+L%FCfter.html

And if you have access to a good cabinet sliding miter saw you can cut/trim them square. Carefully cut rounded sides down to the thin bottom of ribs. I cut 0.2-0.3mm too much. I know, why's housing black... cus I painted it. biggrin.gif

This is very helpful. I am open to modding anything with this build. I thought that the sb-e extreme's fans were already PWM fans?
