new CPU or new mobo?

Thread Starter
ok i have a athlon 64 3200+ at 2 Ghz stock on an MSI MS-7093 with an ATI 200 Express chipset. with this setup i can only OC using software. i used clockgen to get to 2.2Ghz but can't go any higher. so my question is: should i get a new proc like an x2 or should i get a new MB in the end i will do both probably but i'm not sure weather it's worth putting an x2 on a board that i can't OC very high. my second question is: would i be able to go higher with a different program? if so what and where can i get it? if i can OC my current proc i might spend my money on other stuff like x-mass and hold off on this for now.

if you get a new mobo you will be able to OC with that processor. Then when you have some money you can get a new processor too
make sure you get a future ready mobo so that you can upgrade your CPU then too!
be sure to consult ppl here for that advice, a mobo is not the place to skimp

If you're going for a budget system but want some headroom for upgrades, also, this not being your primary system, here is a solution.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103023
(CPU [$75])

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138264
(MOBO [$68])

Total: $143+shipping

For a primary system;

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136152
(Motherboard [$105])

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103588
(CPU [$156])

Total: $261+shipping
By the way, an X2 3800+ only has 1MB of cache (2X512MB) while an opteron has 2MB (2X1MB). The opteron is only 5-10 dollars more so it's worth the buy. With a good stepping, you can get 2.7-.8Ghz with stock voltage.
That should get you going.

the T-Force is a nice board, i would get that or a nice DFI for now, run it with your current 939 chip, then get yourself an opty 165, or an X2 4400, or 4200 down the road. the Biostar or DFI boards will treat you well.

Might just need a new BIOS...

ok so this is probably gona sound pretty noobish but the nvidia chipset won't have a problem with my ATI x600 PCI-e will it?

also that second board has two pci-e x16 slot's does that mean i could go crossfire or SLI in the future? or would it be more for say a raid array?

yeah i tried that and got the newest bios from MSI (which made it so my backup routine no longer work or atleast that's what the manufacturer said was the problem) but anything i do at all in the bios with the cpu and it won't boot so i resorted to using clockgen. with some other software programs i have found i can change the vcore but there is no need for that when i can only get a 200 Mhz OC

Yes, SLI. I'm not sure about crossfire, though.

The first motherboard I suggested has plenty of options. It's rather good a budget board. Many Many options. If you want me to take pictures and show you, I will. It's so simple too. I can't imagine how many more options a DFI board could have
