Are LCD's Still Crap?

Fw900 user for the last 10 years, still going strong, but it does hiccup once in awhile. Have another in the closet in case this one dies.
Only drawback is of course the size and weight of them.

Every once in a while i poke around to see what's new with flat panels. But to me, i've never seen one worth spending a dime on, they always look like crap. Some look ok as long as it's a still image and you are standing far away, but once there's movement - total garbage.

It looks like companies are starting to use IPS panels again - that's at least a plus, my old NEC was alright except for the input lag i just had to get rid of it.

Just curious if things are progressing in the tech or is it still the same rehash crap panels, with input lag, ghosting, and a dark shade of grayish purple for blacks.

Any models with gloss or glass ( no Matte ) 120Hz or higher that stand out amongst the crowd? (Anything below 75Hz hurts my eyes.)
I do game and photoshop ect. Colors have to be really good or no dice. I'm a graphics and image quality whore and pretty non forgiving in that regard. Response time is important, but colors and image quality most of all. I use my pc as a TV basically, so it has to have a good viewing angle as well.
No TN.

If anyone could throw me some suggestions on what to have a look at, or if i sound to hard to please then if i should just wait it out another 5 years or so till they come up with better tech. Thanks.

Forgot to add between 22-24"

The only thing that looks like a CRT is a high speed TN with a lightboost hack. I wish they still sold FW900s; I'd pay a lot for one.

Hmn, well reading around it doesn't look like anythings really changed in the last 5 or so years.
I remember reading there was a new tech coming out about 5 years ago and it was supposed to be the next thing - it would be first used in big displays then work it's way down to consumer grade - can't remember what it was called, but don't see it anywhere that rings a bell. Looks like everything is still pretty much the same.

I don't get why they make so many variations and models every year of monitors and they are basically all the same in the end - crap and crappier, with maybe one model here or there that stands out but is still sub par compared to tech created decades before the turn of the century.

I think CRT's look like crap tbh...

These are your two options ; Catleap comes with no warranty and nothing regarding dead pixels [you might get one, and you can't do anything about it]

overlord tempests have A-grade panels for sale and have a no dead pixel warranty.

Both are IPS, 2560x1440 Resolution, 120Hz refresh rate [make sure you pick the right monitors, Overlord has both 60 and 120hz offerings)

Disregard all the ignorant* statements in this thread, 120Hz, High resolution IPS monitors do exist.

*Ignorant was not meant in a pejorative fashion, simply meant as "unaware of current information"

Guess you never seen a fw900 rolleyes.gif There's no comparison between an lcd led or plasma compared to it. It blows them away in almost every way possible, save for one, Geometry.
Flat panels do have more precise geometry. But even then it's worth that trade off by a long shot. My little brother drools when he comes over and sees games on my monitor. When Skyrim came out he drove over just to see it in it's true glory, and he has a better graphics card than me and can put all the settings on high, it still looks better than on his pc.

That's nice but you can keep your 80lb boat anchor. My dual IPS panels look amazing in both IQ and sitting on my desk. If I ever start feeling nostalgic for the 90's I'll just pop in an Emilio Esteves movie... wink.gif

They don't actually do 120Hz; they can try to refresh the pixels at that rate, but they won't actually be able to change that fast; only TN panels can really produce 120Hz.

well they have asus vg278he which is fast at 144hz only warning i have for that is you might need to adust the brightness and the contrast because it comes very bright. I belive brightness is at 90 and contrast at 80
