Is using both my soundcard and an HDMI connection possible? - Page 2

If you're asking if you can disable sound on the HDMI cable and then do it through the sound card, yes this is possible.

Thanks guys. I get it now. biggrin.gif

How is the HDMI signal compared to DIV in terms of image quality? Is there a difference?

And finally why not buy a full HD TV with HDMI then, it would be much cheaper?

image quality is the same, the only difference between hdmi and dvi is dvi only sends video signal and hdmi sends video and audio signals.

Image quality is the same except hdmi also carries audio. Dvi is seen more in monitors and hdmi is seen more in tv's. I don't really get your question on the 40 inch tv. It would work fine, but I don't know if it would be cheaper than a monitor.

Just to note, DVI can carry audio as well. My in laws are rocking a couple of 560ti's over DVI going to HDMI. Sound carries over just fine.

it all depends on the video card and the adapter used, you can't say for sure that ALL dvi does carry audio because your in laws have ONE card that does that.

Fair enough, I should have specified. My old 8800 gt certainly won't.
