Must read before you buy a 7900gt!

With a little over-clocking you can make a 7900gs run just as good as a 7900gt!

No suprise there. The standard G71 has 24 pixel shaders and 8 vertex shader. The 7900GS is just a crippled 7900GT with 20 pixel and 7 vertex shaders. A 7900GT and 7800GS running at the same clock speed... 7900GT will always win.
Once again...

You overclock a 7900gs and it will run faster than a 7900gt, no doubt in my mind.
I think that link is very important to some people who have no idea about the differences!

7900gt +1.55vmod = 702mhz core and 2ghz RAM....I'll give you some rep if you post a GS with clocks like that. My card at those speeds is scoring higher than a 1900xtx on some 6600 systems.

*I run it daily @ 1.4v, 630mhz core and 1850mhz RAM.
vcore -1.4v
vdimm - 2.21v
vddq - 2.19v

Ill try my best, but my first goal is to get a 7900gs run better than a stock 7900gt. After that I will try for your goal, its doubtful, but ill sure try

Do they have the same PCB? If so you might be able to vmod it the same way.....good luck.

Yes, but overclocking a 7900GT to perform better than a 7900GTX is the real feat.

My card beats the x1900xtx in most things as well...so...I won't lie...it's worth it to get the 7900GT over the GS.

I agree, it is better to go for a 7900gt, but I already have one, and I wanted to see how the 7900gs would perform!
If I can find a decent mod, I will make a gs perform pretty chingy.

The gs is a 7900gt that couldnt make it, so im almost positive it does.

Remember one thing, a 7900gs is going for 144.99 the egg with a ** rebate!
Thats an amazing deal if you ask me.

I'm excited to see what you can do as I'm in between a 7900GS and a 7900GT.. depending on your findings and the stock at the 'egg. Good luck!

Not trying to OC a 7900GS past 7900GT speeds... think about it, basically a 7900GT(or better) for under $150.. thats nutz!
