[Forbes] Five Headphones that Bring Video Games Alive - Page 22

This is a real joke. Even lower end 'mid fi' stuff like Denon 2K's and AKG 701's completely out perform anything on this list. The only way to get true surround emulation on headphones is Smyth Realiser.

I'd love to know your headphone budget.....you consider $300 headphones as "low end mid-fi" and suggest that "the only way" to get surround emulation out of a headphone is a $3,000 surround processor.

Maybe you should do your own roundup for the .00001% of the population who spend over $3k on a gaming headphone setup.

mid-fi is where it's at for headphones. i mean look at studio phones, most are around $200 or less. most of the "super high end phones" aren't really more accurate. i mean the hd600s are more accurate than the 650s, or the orpheous system that retailed for $20k lol. i don't know about the hd800s

no, it's with gaming headphones with seven speakers, ha. seriously though, i'm glad someone else has heard of this besides me. it sounds awesome, but not for $5k

It's just a term, AGK Q701's are very good headphones. But of course there are better, those better ones are going to cost more.

In the end it's just a label, if a label really matters to you then I'm not sure what to say. Although I know you are a huge mac fanboy, so in your case I guess it does.

And? He is clueless, doesn't matter if you think so or not, it's that way it is. Any one that went and actually did some research before buying phones, would steer clear of beats and for the same money, get something much better. If you dispute that fact, well then I guess theres no hope for you buddy.

300 dollars is low end mid-fi.
low-fi is 0- roughly 300, mid-fi is 300-800, 800 plus is 'hi'-fi

then there is 'summit'-fi 5k+
as with all hobbies there are serious diminishing returns, EDIT as well as snake oil.

if you are interested read around here, www.head-fi.org

not just diminishing returns. a lot of the top end phones are more "luxury" products than designed for accuracy. like the grado gs-1000 or orpheous, costs $1000+ and are actually less accurate than $300 phones

Grado and orpheous are in entirely different leagues, not just price wise. Grados have a coloured sound, which some enjoy and others hate with a passion and I think they retail for 1600ish, and you can't tell me they are less detailed then 300 dollar grados.
While the orpheous I think were in the 10k +, they are highly accurate but not perfect and definitely better then 300 dollar headphones, but I have never tried them maybe someday I will find someone who owns a set.

maybe but not more accurate than $300 sennheisers or akgs. if you like colored sound, change the settings on your amp, don't spend thousands unnecesarily.

nope they're not, that's the sad thing. i'm not going to post response graphs to prove my point but they are out there if you care
