Air TUUUUUUUBE!

Thread Starter
So, winter rolled around and with it came some nice and chilly weather in the single digit C region. However, inside, my GTX 260 was busy roasting away at 45C idle and my GT 240 floating at around 37C.

So i thought, hmmm, why not move that cool air from the outside to my computer? A sound idea, except that the window is about 5 feet away from my tower and none of my cables are long enough to allow my tower to move that far.

What to do, what to do.....

Turns out, my inspiration for a solution comes from my mother's current habit of eating pringles as part of her lunch. I noticed that she had a fairly large pile of empty cans, and i thought, "hey... why not use a few plus some boxes and a fan to move that air from the window to my case?"

This is the result:

Yeah its ugly, yeah my room is a bit messy, but the results are unquestionable.

Before building the tube, my temps were as follows:

Idle:
CPU: 29C package 32/29/41/35 cores (latter 2 wont read lower)
GTX260: 45C core
GT240: 37C

Load:
CPU: 70C package ~74 all 4 cores (IBT)
GTX260: 80C (fan going full bore according to profile at this point) (Furmark)
GT240: 75C (Folding@home)

Now that its up and going:

Idle:
CPU: 18C package 28/25/41/35 cores (latter 2 wont read lower)
GTX260: 40C core
GT240: 32C

Load:
CPU: 60C package ~63 all 4 cores
GTX260: 66C (Furmark)
GT240: 57C (F@H)

Keep in mind these drops were gotten using 5C outside air. If it was below freezing outside, im pretty sure i'd get lower temps still.

What do you guys think?

Lol'd!

well done.

meanwhile here in Australia it's 35-40'c. If i made an air pipe it would pretty much be the equivalent of setting a fire in my case.

Condensation only occurs when warm air hits a cold surface.

In his case, cold air is touching a warm surface so there will be no condensation.

OP Take a look at this thread:

It has some good replies as well as links to other similar ideas such as yours. thumb.gif
