Very slow Samsung 840 PRO 512gb - Page 3

Nice to see it fixed it. Thats about all you're going to get out of that drive, its best to stop benching it for a little while too. RAID 0 is the only way you're going to get any faster currently.

i tried to do the same thing, installing this driver, but my system doesn't take it. i have a MB GigaByte GA-X58A-UD5 (rev 2.0), Intel i7 960, Samsung SSD 840 Pro 256 GB SATA3, HDD WD Caviar Black 2TB SATA3.
I have 10 SATA ports in my MB. 0-5 for Intel Rapid Store Technology (SATA2), 6-7 Marvell driver (or windows default driver) SATA3, and 8-9 SATA2. I put my SSD and my HDD on ports SATA3 (6 and 7) but if i install Marvell driver, my SSD is not as fast as it can. How did you get it Axxis???

I basicly did what I wrote here.
First i installed the provided CD. I used the OS-optimizer and the SSD-optimizer (cant remember the name). Nothing happened. I then installed all the drivers for my motherboard again and a slight increase in speed occured. But what really did it was the Intel driver Sean linked to on the prevoius page.

What readings are you getting? Screenshot it here.

I also followed a webpage with steps on what things to disable but i cant seem to find it now frown.gif

but I think the OS Optimizer does these things for you.

That driver is for the intel SATA and should not improve the off chipset SATA much. The onboard Intel chipset you are using are 3Gb not the 6Gb that others are getting the highest performance with.

so...with my MB I only can use Marvell driver, or Windows default one...but I can't install Intel Sata driver to get this Samsung SSD performance. is this OK??
You will most likely get the best results from the Intel ports, even though they are sata 2.

Hi guys and thanks for your help.

After many attempts to get this incredible speed in my Samsung SSD 840 Pro, i just can say that it's impossible with my MB, because my SATA3 ports only works with Marvell's driver or default windows' driver. NEVER with Intel's driver, like Axxi's MB. This is a very bad feature of my MB Gygabyte GA-X58A-UD5 (rev 2.0). Marvell drivers are not competitive until the moment, even default windows' driver is BETTER for my SSD!!!! That's incredible!!! thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

I've updated all the drivers, and Marvell's controller firmware by flashing my BIOS, but i surrender. I still think my SSD is fast enough to work and play with my PC, but it could be faster.

Here you have my benchmark results in different ports and using different drivers. As you can see, in my MB is the same to work in SATA3 port with MAHCI driver and in SATA2 port with IRST driver.

SATA2 and IRST driver:

SATA3 and Marvell driver:

SATA3 and default windows driver for AHCI:

Thanks for your help and have fun!! thumb.gif

Your board was built before Intel started offering SATA 3 on the chipset, its not really a surprise that Marvell controller only works with their drivers tongue.gif

One of the big drawbacks of keeping X58 these days is the lack of native SATA 3 ports, although my Rampage 3 Extreme showed acceptable speeds from its Marvell controller it is not nearly as good as the Intel solution.
