why some games have no regenerate health? - Page 8

Items that restore health go back to the earliest of first person shooters, and even this was derived from much earlier platfomers and 2D shooters.

However, most tactical shooters, having some vague attempt at verisimilitude, traditionally haven't had much in the way of health restoration/regen.

Finding med-pack and applying them instantly recover your health is no more realistic than regenerating health after few seconds. Neither happen in real life, in real life, when you get shot, you die or you go to hospital.

While I completely agree that neither health regen nor health packs are realistic, getting shot in the real world is often not an automatic death sentience, nor is it always immediately disabling. Plenty of places you can get shot where it won't kill you for a long time, if ever, even without professional medical treatment, and plenty of mortal wounds that will kill you, but will leave you able to function fairly normally for minutes or hours.

I agree, very few of these games are attempting to be combat simulations.

No offence, but.. I'm kinda convinced now gamers of this century are spoiled. I enjoyed games back then where you barely had any life, you had to literally scavenge for healing items, medkits and stuff. Now, its kinda "easy" mode for everyone.

Back when I was a kid, I enjoyed that, It made me think, nothing was spoon fed, and for that, it developed critical thinking, problem solving and such. I kinda feel sad how during my High School years, I beat College level gamers and how I'm in College and no highschooler has ever beaten me yet if anything, they're more "noobish" compared to the highschoolers I played with before.. tongue.gif (Not to brag or anything)

Regenerating health has its place in gaming, just like medkits do. Not everyone wants to have to search around for a medkit in order to start up the next fight, just as not every person wants their health regenerating.

Personally there are some games that I would absolutely HATE if they had medkits, just as there are some games I would HATE if they had regenerating health. All about the game and its mechanics. Regen does not make sense in doom, and medkits do not make sense in Halo 3.

FEAR for example is NOT a game where regenerating health makes any sense. Neither is CS or HL2. But do you guys really wanna have to spend time searching for medkits in EVERY game? Of course not. I love searching for medkits in HL2, but if I'm playing Halo with a few buddies over at my house, the last thing I want to do is spend half the game looking for health items, especially when 1) you constantly respawn and 2) the game is about shooting people, not hide and seek medkit.

Each have a place in gaming.

Asking why this game doesn't have regen health is like asking why you can't get a chain-gun in every game. Deal with it or play something else.

Was it necessary to bump a 2 week old thread? And I hardly find his post insulting.
