Advice on FX-6300 or 8320/8350? AMD only not looking for flame war. - Page 2

post #11 of 47
Well the 6300 overclocks as well as the other too, and it is the least power hungry of the bunch. Have mine at 4.550 Gig @1.4375 V it will do 4.6 it seems at around 1.45. Nice chips improved my flight simming heaps.
post #12 of 47
FYI FX-6300 was just $109.00 shipped during the Holiday with a discount code. Also make sure to check Amazon as they have much quicker less expensive s&h. thumb.gif

So then, the FX-8320 it is. Now since I do plan to OC, I'm curious as to what cooler you guys recommend, I would prefer water cooling since air coolers generally take up a large amount of space? Also, do you guys think the Corsair HX750 is enough for a FX-8320 OC and a 7950 which I will probably also OC?

I generally get things from Newegg, and they generally have free shipping.

yeah 750 watts is more than adequate for that setup. as for cooling, water is better but it tends to be more expensive. this one is the best closed loop water cooling system on the market right now (~5-10 degrees cooler than the H100) but it does cost a lot.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106190

air cooling is bigger but it is usually quieter as well. this is the best bang for buck cooler you can buy. i have it and absolutely love it. it is quieter than my water cooling setups and cools almost as well. it is about 1-2 degrees warmer than an h100 so it's a really good deal. read the reviews

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835146011

so unless you are really pushing a high overclock, air is better since it is quieter and cheaper.

Like Dizz said, that power supply is more than adequate and probably overkill. In the name of "bang for buck," something like this would be perfect;

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256065

The best water cooling kit money can buy is the XSPC Raystorm Kit. If you're willing to spend on an H100, you might as well step up to the big boy kits. Otherwise, something like what Dizz mentioned, or something along the lines of an H60 shoud easily take you to 4.5Ghz +.

hmm that raystorm kit is pretty cool. ive never heard of that before. definitely get that if you have the money. i would not suggest getting a lower end water cooler like the H60 or H80 though. you would be better off with a high end air cooler as temperature and noise will be less

Nice! The XSPC cooler looks awesome, my only concern is if I'll be able to fit it in the case? Wold that cooler out perform the Thermaltake CLW0217?

yes you will be able to fit it in the top of your case and i expect that it will perform a bit better than the thermaltake although it will require more setup

The Raystorm is one of, if not thee best water block out there, and is very affordable. It wont have any trouble outperforming any of the closed loop water coolers in the market. Fitment can be an issue depending on the case. But if you can fit an H100 in your case, then you should have no problem fitting one of these.
