Wow. There are people on here with your processor over 3.1Ghz on air! Something smells wrong here. Did you test your memory with memtest86? And try running simultaneous torture tests on both of your CPU cores with Prime 95.

Those are the most widely used programs by the overclockers here I would say. Try those out and let us know what happens.

That's why most people get a X2 3800 and overclock it (and save a ton of cash), those high model X2's don't overclock a lot compared to a X2 3800.

While Acoma_Andy is right about most people saving cash and overclocking 3800s, you should still be able to get over 3Ghz on water without any problems at all. Start up your computer with the max OC you can get it to run at. Then try those tests I linked you to. You should be able to run Prime95 for 8 hours + on each core and let memtest86 run its course for at least that long as well.

Also, do you have the most up to date BIOS? How about the dual core optimizer downloaded? You can try a number of things in the BIOS like locking bus speeds on your PCI-E to 100Mhz. What are your BIOS setting at for your OC?

I have had this DMI issue a number of times with my old SLI-DR board and it continued on my expert. Try using the spread spectrum settings and memory hole options in advanced chipset features.

Examples: to boot a 165 opteron past 2.66Ghz I had to use PCIE spread spectrum, and at past 2.7 I had to use the CPU spread spectrum. On my current expert board I could not verify DMI past 2.43 without enabling memory hole for PCI MMIO, and sata spread spectrum.

If you try these don't do them all at once try one at a time as you may just cause another problem if you enable all of them.
