You shouldn't be testing the 3570K vs the FX-4170 (Or any bulldozer for that matter) You should be testing the FX-8350 against the 3570K since they're in the same price/performance range. Luckily for you that's already been done by two members of this forum...What do the results show? EXTREMELY minimal differences @ 1920 x 1080. If you where to step up to 2560 X 1440/1600 the gap would close EVEN MORE because then the games become extremely GPU dependent.

I wonder of this means that gigabyte will give 8 core vishera support to my motherboard as currently it will only accept the 6300 and 4300 as they have a lower tdp. A 95w 8 core vishera really gives them no excuses to not support the 8300

Its funny though because my board does support the 8 core power sucking bulldozers.

My FX-4170 is definitely slower than an FX-8350 though, and if I can't see a difference between it and an i5-3570k then you sure as hell won't on an FX-8350.

So, from reading through the comments I can conclude that the problem with AMD's bulldozer+ modules are... the modules ? The concept of sharing stuff on the chip doesn't work as expected or did I get it wrong ?

That depends on who you decide to listen to.
Personally, I rather like mine and it is performing just fine:

FX-8350 and FX-8320.
Underclock them.
Instant FX-8300 results.

Nah, it's the shared decoders, they limit single threaded performance because while they're faster in a single-thread to decoder situation compared to Phenom II, they're slower when you have two cores per decoder such as normal in Bulldozer. More details here.

The 30% performance improvement is most likely maximum, with (IMO) 15%-20% average being more likely IMO, but that should leave AMD in a similar position against Haswell, as long as they get product out before Broadwell I can see PD systems being great budget ones/systems that run great for people who do stuff other than gaming much like PD is vs IVB.
