In all honesty I am waiting for an AMD platform that offers PCI-Express 3.0. I know it's not completely relevant right now but the fact that the 7970 and the GTX 680 can saturate a PCI-Express 2.0 means in the next couple of years the majority of gaming cards will be able to do the same.

So, if we do the math, I dunno, carry the zeros....assuming the average price for energy is $0.11 per KWh.

Whats the power consumption difference monthly? Assuming say 8 hours of on-time. Rendering for 1 hour, 3 hours of gaming, 2 hours of browsing and 2 hours of movie playback. From there you can choose to leave the computers idle overnight or shut them down. What's your monthly total assuming a 31 day month?

Where do you get that from? Neither will saturate a PCIE 2.0. I would like to see your evidence of that.

Why do you all care about power consumption so much, the difference to your power bill is going to be so miniscule compared to other things that it means almost nothing. For people using them 24/7 in servers or whatever I can understand but for people like us it honestly means bugger all.

Steamroller should have independent 4-wide decoders for each core, which will mean a very significant jump in performance. I would not rule out over a 30% IPC boost in certain apps, but I'm still skeptical of an all-round 30% boost in IPC.

Anyway, unless something drastic happens, the move from Vishera/Piledriver to Steamroller architecture will be a much bigger improvement than Bulldozer to Vishera.
