[EXPReview]AMD begins to sell FX-8300 processor with 95W TDP - Page 7

It is what WE need...to keep things competitive and moving forward.
One can only hope they step up their game in ipc aswell, with that 30% figure.rolleyes.gif

It more accurate to say that AMD claims 30% increase, instead of saying it going to be 30%

Besides that AMD could always use a cherrypicked test to support their 30% claims

There are charts with power consumptions between Piledrivers and their competitors and so I'm quite curious as to why you keep posting Bulldozer ones instead?

Well they did claim 10-15% improvements over Bulldozer with Piledriver, and it's for the most part been true (some areas less, some areas as much as 25%). With the changes slated for Steamroller I don't see 20-30% being too farfetched,

Because it is not that much different?

4W less at load, still a long way from Ivy.

Not to be nitpicky, but the 8350 is also clocked 400mhz higher than the 8150. So realistically a closer comparison is the 8320 vs 8150 if looking at it from an architecture comparison (roughly 15w difference under load). Not like either one is exactly stellar either way though. thumb.gif

Off topic:

When did AMD lower the prices on them?
8320 is 149.99 and 8350 is 190 @ Amazon

A 30% IPC increase over their last chip.... That's absolutely amazing. It needs to be out asap.

$190 is supposed to be the MSRP if I recall. Retailers had them priced higher when released. Then Black Friday hits and they were on sale for either $190 or $200.

But I don't doubt everyone will raise it back to $200-220 after the 1st week of January.

So, if we do the math, I dunno, carry the zeros....assuming the average price for energy is $0.11 per KWh.
Whats the power consumption difference monthly? Assuming say 8 hours of on-time. Rendering for 1 hour, 3 hours of gaming, 2 hours of browsing and 2 hours of movie playback. From there you can choose to leave the computers idle overnight or shut them down. What's your monthly total assuming a 31 day month?

Omg I have to respond to the AMD fanboys ASAP because I cannot believe my eyes.

The difference between them is something like 50W, plus if you're talking about i5s AMD completes tasks much quicker (unless we're talking about gaming and stuff). Since the tasks are completed quicker, energy is being used over a shorter period of time. So while maximum energy usage might be much higher, the actual difference is much smaller.
If you're talking about i7s, I don't know where you live but here in the USA such a small difference in power usage does not amount to that kind of money. Even if you're talking Micro Center deals.
What do you think Intel's low-TDP chips are?

No.

Maybe you did not know Jim Keller has returned to AMD, and his main job is work on the Steamroller Core if by chance you do not know this person link below. wink.gif
