People that paint their fans are building art, I just built a water cooled computer. Very different projects actually. smile.gif
I will live with the colors I have and strike it up to a lesson learned.

Painting fans, sleeving, etc when building a computer are just things to learn.
If you are honest with yourself, not doing something just means it's not a priority for you. Not good, not bad, just not a priority.
Maybe it's also a bit of trepidation before doing it for the first time (no pun intended). I can't speak for everyone, but it was in my personal experience anyway.

On the other hand, what's the worst that could go wrong?
Maybe you ruin a fan trying to take it apart (check! twice), maybe break a cable here and there (check!). That's the cost of learning I guess.
That's why when (all of 2 weeks ago) I started painting and sleeving, it was on a €15 fan, and not on my €100 pump.

Well, sure, but if you really want something you go for it.
I can definitely see cost as a factor, though in the long run it can be cheaper to make and sleeve your own cables.

I have definitely destroyed some stuff, no doubt about it. redface.gif

I don't mean it to sound like everyone should be doing all this stuff; some people's talents have nothing to do with these things.

yah, its called get up off your lazy arse and start fiddling ! Finally got my drop-in mount this evening... wow. I hate waiting for parts, I ordered this last Thursday.

I still havven't tried the OC thing, I read some, and was confused - the UP7 does look to be really simple to OC from what little I read. I just need to update the bios and then read some more and go thru the bios.

Having a problem understanding this part about lowering the LLC - http://www.overclock.net/t/1339714/z77x-up7-performance-review-and-cpu-memory-overclocking-guide

CPU VCore can be set to whatever you want, BIOS F3 and F5n have ability to take vcore above 1.85v.
Now Offset VCore is useful for 24/7 OCs if you have the multiplier drop under idle, then you can also have the vcore drop if you use offset.
To use offset then set vcore to normal and then set an offset.
If you use offset then use a much lower level of LLC.

This section of the first post is right above this text: Memory Overclocking Guide and Results:

ADD: Ok, I'm re-reading your post - getting the hang of it, I think

later ADD:

Ok - that was easy. The cpu itself was changing from 1600 to 3700 to 3900 by itself ! Then I flashed the bios to F5j, and started out at 40 on the multi, then 43 then 45.
Core voltage in CPUz never changed - 1.068V

Offset is .010 and LLC is medium, and all 3 states are enabled. Temps at 45 were mid 60s to low 70s. I run a 1 minute 1344 custom prime95 test with 90% of ram, then the same thing at 1792. Guess I need to find some longer timed tests. But its stable .... so far. Way too easy.

Sounds reasonable. As long as Turbo is on Auto or Enabled it will ramp up to 3.9 stock settings, as that is how the 3770K's are made to do.
But you probably have a version of cpuz that isn't working right for Gigabyte boards. Depending on your particular cpu, I would expect to see 1.26x -1.272v max for 4.5, lower for really good cpu's. Idle vcore around 1v +/- .1
If you run P95 (latest) the first test will be 448, then 8K. For quickie testing, I will run it through 8K, or only 8K and look for WHEA error 19. You know where to look for that, right?
These boards/3770K's are easy to overclock to 4.5-4.6 for a 24/7 "safe" OC.

HWINFO will also show a good vcore reading and a lot of other info. Plus the developer is constantly updating it.
RealTemp is a good app for core temp readings.

Turbo is auto or enabled, hmm. Didn't do that on the Asus & 3770k. Anyway, that explains the ramping up to 3.9

latest available version of cpu-z, hmm.

using realtemp. Will get HWINFO - have to read up some on the P95 tests.

whaaa ? I gotta email MS for a hotfix for the WHEA 19 error ? BS !!

BRB.

ADD:
No whea 19 errors, matter of fact, no errors of any kind in Event Viewer. \o/

latest non-beta HWINFO shows 1.056V - rock steady.
Hey hey Hey ! you called it, updated the CPU-z to 1.63 and now its a variable read on the Vcore - 1.080 - 1.092 - 1.104 at idle. wink.gif

Ok, replaced P95 with v27.9 - am running 1.296V to 1.308V at 4.5 with low to mid 60s on temp. 448 test first. kewl !

Ok - updated HWINFO to latest beta - 1855 - and now it reads Vcore correctly biggrin.gif

Hmmmph ! I let the blend run for 4 hours or so, got distracted with a neighbor, and checked the pc and BSOD ! Uncorrectable hardware error.
I checked Windows event viewer, and didn't see anything about the WHEA 19 error ... Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but the event IDs were a 1001 and 6008.

So .. leaving it at the current OC of 4.5GHz ...

Probably need to bump the DVID a little if you bluescreened. I usually run LLC Medium for 4.5 for a little droop.

Yeah, the WHEA - logger shows up under warnings in Event Viewer.
