Talking about bent socket pins, the same thing happened to me last year, and Newegg called me a liar. I had to send the board to Gigabyte for repairs. That's how I ended up with 2 UD5H boards, I went ahead and bought another one while I waited to see what Giga would do.

So did Giga charge you for the repairs ? Coz Asus will tell you it will cost $120 - and you gotta pay shipping, I believe. Didn't happen to me, but it is routine nowadays, since spring or so. Funny thing is, I built maybe 6 pcs this year - only 2 of the boards were z77 types. The first messed up board from fall '11 was a z68 asrock - so I sense that its the hobbyist boards that are being RMAed with bent pins and another reason is put for the RMA and newegg aren't doing their job of checking.

No, Gigabyte gave me no hassle about the repairs, and no charges. They replaced the cpu socket, updated the bios even, and they shipped it back UPS 3 day.
In fact I'm waiting now for an RMA for my other UD5H board with the nonfunctional x16 PCIe slot, in this case it was probably my fault, not really sure, but I'm hoping they'll treat me nice. smile.gif
If they will repair it for me then I'll probably sell my UP4 TH board and keep both the UD5H boards. Or sell two of them and get something else.

But anyway I bought that UD5H too early for it to have been sold/resold so I'm assuming it came with bent pins from the factory. But who knows.

BIG ORANGE FRIDAY

mobo - fans - come in tomorrow, end of day.

I just ordered up the mobo block and the cpu block - XSPC block for the GA-Z77X-UP7
and the Koolance 380i for the 3770k

Not sure which size fittings to go with, tho ... I have a bunch of Bitspower matt black 1/2" - 3/4" fittings.

But I think the XSPC mobo block will sit well with the Koolance, and the black Mushkin ridgeback ram wink.gif

btw There's a "mini review" of the UP7 on the TT Gigabyte forum. I don't know if Sin0822 did one for this board or not....maybe on youtube or somewhere.

Yah, I googled up the mobo and block and all that came twere the XSPC ! looks great, and with the Koolance, seems to balance each other, I'll hit that review up. Thanks for the suggestion and link, prolly never woulda hit it if not for you wink.gif

I found a buildlog by Knucklehead47 - in a Switch - that is using the same mobo and fans .. interesting to watch

No. That, to my mind, is a fad that I will not be taking part in ... of .... around ... about. Too many fail stories - I get the appeal but wow. that's 330 bucks worth hanging on my approach.
How about you ? have you tried it ?


I bypassed the x79/2011 board thang coz it all seems so unclear - will it support IB-E ? I mean, the new boards for Haswell are 1150, and while the 2011
builds are pretty impressive - the dual quad ram slots flanking the cpu - they're a bit of a dead-end, what with IB-E not out, and Haswell on the horizon. I guess I'm a MORer MOL.

1155 + 3770k = stability - lower OC @ higher temps compared to SB - and who needs freaking 6 cores ? at that price ? I wish I had the w/e to go all out, but the stakes and their risks seem so much higher.

So you see, I can't just type No. he-he..

Needs ot open the mobo and fans boxus that came in today, take pix, post pix, hope I get the orange balance right wink.gif

I have decided to go with the vanilla Evga 4gb 680 - the 2686 - and I see that the EVGA HC block is out of stock everywhere, so I'm gonna go with the Koolance block coz it works with the EVGA backplate.
Kinda wished I had an R-atx build just to show off the Koolance black/silver face, should go well with the XSPC mobo block that's silver/black, and the Koolance 380i block !
