X1950XT. Better than SLI, maybe cheaper.

All options are $250 +/- $40, as I see it. SLi is cheaper.

you can get a new XFX 7600GT XT or xXx NEW for around $150 (got one off ebay for $95) and a awesome overclocking board (DFI LanParty Sli-D/Sli-DR/Ultra-D[Mod them into Sli-D]) and be happy for awhile. once the bigger high end cards prices go down get one. Spending $650 or even $400 for one video card is just retarded.

100% agreed.

As for a new board, what about the performance increase of going from SATA150 -> SATA300? I have 2x 7200.10 RAID 0. That will help a bit.

Originally when I was given a loose budget, I went to SLi, but then looked into single cards and keeping the MOBO which is now nearing 2 years old (and the cooling has been delt with in a unique way... check the rig pics). I can always count on a good discussion from you guys, and I have gotten it. Thanks again to all!!!!

SLi -> Dual View issues

Single Card -> Same board, same board issues.

So finally... SLi or New Card... nVidia (sorry, ATi guys, I hate ATi's software/drivers, that's a deal breaker for me...)

EDIT: I would also go aftermarket cooling on both solutions... Not chipset, just VGA (for now).

sli mobos are so cheap these days.. you could get a cheap sli board and a new card. go to www.newegg.com and start looking around..

DFI makes some of the best OC'ing boards around... not going to find one for less then $80 maybe...but there is a DFI sponsored Overclocking forum (www.dfi-street.com) to help with board issues and overclocking

EDIT: also, you can get one of these.. and with a little bridge jump on the northbrige you can have the SLI-D for $85

I still think for roughly 250 bucks, the best card you can get is the x1950XT. It will own the 7950GT and any other nVidia card around that price range. And remember, SLI does not double performance.

Also, look at some gaming FPS between the x1950PRO and 7600GT SLI, benchmark numbers dont mean as much as raw FPS (to me anyway)..The X1950 Pro equals if not beats the 7600GT in SLI in the FPS war, not to mention the x1950xt still beats the x1950PRO.

I am loyal to Nvidia but it really looks like the X1950XT would be your best bet... but SLI does have a bling factor.. and a new Mobo is always nice to fiddle with...

So, I would have to say sell both your current mobo and 7600GT and then buy a nicer OCing board (DFI maybe) with SATA-3Gbps and grab a X1950xt or X1950Pro if you cant afford it.
