Acrylic and Aluminum Scratch Build - Page 4

I can't catch a break with this build. The EK EZ mount appears to be either missing some spacers, or can only be used with a back plate or something. I'm not sure but it does not mount correctly on an 1155 socket, I'm using the stock mounting system but I'm not super happy with it. The real issue is my dumb ass was adjusting the sata cables while leak testing, with the fans running, and my knuckle tapped my brand new 200mm fan and one of the blades came flying off. I know better than to be fiddling when thing are running, but for whatever reason, oh well........ But on a positive note, 24 hour leak test is done, and other than the fan needing to be replaced I'M DONE!
Here are some crappy photos, I will post final pictures after the fan is in.

I ran a quick 2 hour Prime95 run and none of the cores broke 60c (I5 2500k 4.0 @1.264 vcore), so I would say I have everything running right. If you have any input, comments, or questions let me know!
Thanks
The photos really do not do this thing justice, I promise better pics very soon!

There is always some setback on such projects, and most mistakes are due either to fatigue or to impatience. I am glad you are almost done.

This time it was the later. No worries I had to order some other stuff as well, with the fan it justifies the shipping cost. wink.gif

Here are some teaser shots, the case shakes a bit because of the fan. Friday the new 200mm, and the back plate for the 7870 will be here.

Best advice is go buy a framing square and some good files. Cut all your pieces a little long first, stack the equal sizes together and file the ends so there all even and to the size you want them. Make sure to use the square to keep the corners at nice right angles, or you frame will wobble when your done (I learned that the hard way trying to rush it). And Thanks!

We have a mini machine shop at work with metal saws, drill presses, a wire wheel, and loads of other tools. I'll normally stay an extra hour or so after I'm off to work on the frame a little bit each day. So far I have all the pieces cut, holes drilled and tapped. Next step is a test fitting. If it all fits together as planned then all the screws with with tightened with threadlock. Might take it to my dad's shop for a few tac welds for added stability. So far I probably have about 6 hours just in cutting, measuring, recutting, drilling, filing, etc. Hopefully I'll have a solid frame built by the end of the week and ready for some paint.
Thanks for the advice! thumb.gif
PS: Build log to soon follow if the frame goes together nicely

I've always wanted to build my own case. It's always sounded fun to me. But I never knew exactly what I wanted. Now that I have a WC loop and have seen all the different double wide and horizontal mobo cases I finally know what I want. Having all the tools and a bunch of scrap material readily available at work really helps too. It just saves me that much more money. The bare aluminum frame, once it's together, will have cost me a grand total of about $5

Nice thumb.gif mark me jealous. I wish I had access to an actual machine shop, I have ideas floating around in my head that need to come to life. I was able to find a guy, a few doors down from my in laws house with a CNC machine. My wife is finding it suspicious I am asking when we can go see her parents again.

I feel the same way, as custom as we make our machines, someone else can have the exact same one unless you do it yourself!
