Looks as solid as a CaseLabs case - as first I thought it must be made of thick aluminium and then powdercoated - well done!

Quick question - do you find the tapped acrylic threads to be fairly strong? I'm planning on vertically mounting a 360mm rad to a thick piece of acrylic, do you think I should pass a bolt through with a washer on the other side to minimise stress on the acrylic, or do you reckon a tapped thread would be enough to hold the weight?
That depends on the number of threaded holes and thickness of acrylic. The more threaded holes, the stress will be more evenly distributed across the acrylic. And obviously the thicker the acrylic the stronger it will be as well. And since you said you were using "thick" acrylic, I think just threaded holes would be fine. I tap acrylic at work a lot and the threads are stronger than you'd think. Just don't be tightening the screws with a high torque drill, hand tight with a screw driver is all that's needed

First off thanks for the comments. As for the question, using 6-32 screws in 1/4" acrylic will hold most any computer component with out pulling out or warping. As the last post said just make sure to just use a screwdriver and do not over tighten.

just want to ask, if how can i make an acrylic look like frosted? do i have to use a sandpaper? what grit should i use? because im planning to make my sidepanel window look like frosted on the sides of the acrylic.

I could not tell you for sure, because I have never done it. But when I was sanding the pieces for painting, they did have a frosted look to them. I would say try to sand the back side of the piece with 400 grit sand paper and see where it gets you. Use a scrap piece or two to test out what works the best.
Good Luck.

Your best idea is to sand the back of the window, just as Bucshman stated. Another option is to use window frosting paint. This is a clear coat paint with a matte finish, giving the look of frosted edges like you are looking for. A great build to take a look at would be http://www.overclock.net/t/1329103/k-3nnys-classy-lianli-pc-7hx-casebuild/80. The windows of their build have frosted edges and show you how they were done. Hope this helps!

I also agree that sanding could be the best solution, or at least the cheapest. Whatever the method you choose, try with some scrap acrylic.

Another option is to use some 3M glass finish film like these. However I don't know how they look on acrylic and probably it wouldn't be worth the price. Actually I don't even know if you could buy some of these films as a private.

@Bucshman I have to tell you i am so glad that i take the time to read the build logs before i vote and just dont look at the photos. I had NO idea that this was completely hand made. I just wish i had the skills to do this kind of work. I also wish that desk mods or desk computers were a different category somehow.
I thought I had an easy choice this month till i came across your log. Now i find myself asking the hard question. I have to say in your build, you have taken the hard approach and made it look easy. Understated and pure funcion. I love the clean look of the outsides and the whole concept.. well i think i just made my mind up. You get my vote... . I just had to imagine which computer i would rather have in my house. If you are as happy as the others that have responded are, you should be very proud of yourself. thumb.gif

Thanks Sunset1, "understated and function" with some timeless class was exactly what I was trying to accomplish. I am extremely happy with how it turned out, and enjoy the fact that no one will ever have a rig like mine.
