Unfortunately with the higher multiplier and higher starting frequency it does not reflect in how high you can overclock when compared to other X2 processors. You will be able to get to around 2.6 to 2.8GHz overclocked I would estimate, about the same as people with X2 3800+.

There are very few AMD dual-cores that can reach 3.0GHz, phase or similar not being factored. Most dual-cores, whether it is an X2 or Opteron, end around the 2.6 to 2.8GHz mark. So you will be amongst the majority.

Right now the Opteron 165's that they are shipping from Newegg are some of the best steppings. If you stand a chance at all of reaching 3GHz with an AMD processor for sale right now would be the Opteron 165. You could sell you 4800+ on eBay and buy a Opteron 165 and have some change in your pocket. Just another idea.

It depends on the stepping you get. My X2 4200 can hit 3.1 ghz or air cooling. I have seen others that could not even hit 2.6. I would guess 2.7 for you that 4800.

It depends mainly on the clocker and what you choose to do 1st...
Or you can be just like everybody else...

It will give you a little more overclocking potential if you are held back by temperatures alone. It will not make you cpu overclock higher, but if you are running at 50*c @ 2.6GHz and you do not want to push it higher because of temperatures, you might run at 45*c at that same setting with the Zalman so you will be able to push it higher.

I really would advise against the FX-60 upgrade, because it is far from an upgrade. An Opteron running at 2.8GHz will outperform a FX-60 running at the same frequency, and the FX-60 are very poor overclockers. Most are lucky to get another 100MHz out of them.
