Crap, that was REALLY dumb

Thread Starter
I renamed my E:\\ drive (OS drive) to C:\\, and now my comp won't find the users. I get to the screen where a user name or 5 would usually pop up, but none do. I just have this windows logo right in the middle of the screen.

Would system restore fix the problem if I could get to it? How could I get to it through the recover console (I can't do DOS well; I'd need listed commands).

On the other side, is there a cheap SATA-USB adapter that I could use to attach my HDD to the lappy I'm using now (which has Acronis Disk Director on it, so I could rename the drive back to E:\\)?

Thanks a million. I really need my comp back up asap.

Uhh... wow! That was great! If you repair your installation of Windows, you might be back in business...

To do that, boot off of your Windows Disc (pref. slipstreamed), act as if you are going to do a fresh install. After you press F8 to accept the EULA, press 'R' to Repair your copy of Windows. This is instead of doing a fresh install involving a reformat.

As for plugging it into your lappy to straighten out issues... it might work......

EDIT: Safe mode... how did I over look safe mode

To get into safe mode: Press F8 as you are booting (after POST, before WinXP screen). You will have about 7 options, one is Safe Mode, one is Safe Mode with Networking and so on...

The same thing happens in safe mode as regular; I can't access any user accounts.

So I choose not to use the recovery console and instead pretend to do a new installation until I get the option to repair?
