Gravity's effects (pulling) may respond at the speed of light but the last time I jumped off my diving board I didn't hit the water at the speed of light.

I'm being humorous based on misleading titles, there is quite a difference from saying that Gravity travels at the speed of light and the Propagation of Gravity travels at the speed of light.

Of course if you did jump off your diving board and were travelling at the speed of light your mass would be infinitely large and you'd go completely through the earth. You might get 10 points for it too thumb.gif

Funny thing about Gravity, it's effects are the same as if every particle space in the entire universe was expanding at the same rate that we think Gravity is exerting on objects. Inverse square of distance between objects... Who says there's gravity?...I know alot of scientists who cannot find it or make a unified law for it. Maybe the Apple isn't falling or just maybe the pool is coming up to meet you... biggrin.gif

I pissed off my college professor with that one, as it is correct. We don't know, and cannot prove either hypothesis as they are equal and opposite.

Dont think that the speed of light will be our gravity. It will of course alter for different planets and all. Just like the black holes gravity is faster then the speed of light.

It's a little different to get one's head around when talking "Gravity exerts so much force that Light gets pulled into a black hole", the more accepted way to think of it is that Time is curved HEAVILY near a black hole.

The pseudo straight line light was travelling that would have passed by any other planet or celestial object is not straight anymore as the black hole is actually curving time towards the black hole. "That's one hell of a curve ball Jimmy".

I'm just hoping something new comes out of this and maybe those at the LHC (large Hadron Collider) will see something to get towards a Unified theory... they keep saying they are close, supposedly but nothing confirmed.

I would think that gravity moves faster than light, black wholes. But on the other hand there are different levels of gravity so does that mean different speeds?
