One cannot *create* matter unless he has immense quantities of energy. Which we do not have the technology to harness and store
It means a lot for string theory, which means a lot. People thought that developments in microwaves were useless but from that we got microprocessors and nuclear energy ... You can't deem it useless as you cannot predict the future. A further knowledge of string theory can help us develop technologies unimaginable to us currently, such as the manipulation of dark energy (which outweights matter by about 90%). The manipulation of such an energy will bring us closer to a type II civilization (We're currently about type 0.8 ... we have a long way to go)

Gravity is one of 4 forces that constitute string theory. The other 3 "influence" the behaviour between particles just as much (relatively). String theory is comprised of 4 forces, and seeks the explain the behaviour of both micro and macro particles using a combination of the 4 forces
