[Spacedaily] Scientists find evidence for speed of gravity - Page 6

One cannot *create* matter unless he has immense quantities of energy. Which we do not have the technology to harness and store

It means a lot for string theory, which means a lot. People thought that developments in microwaves were useless but from that we got microprocessors and nuclear energy ... You can't deem it useless as you cannot predict the future. A further knowledge of string theory can help us develop technologies unimaginable to us currently, such as the manipulation of dark energy (which outweights matter by about 90%). The manipulation of such an energy will bring us closer to a type II civilization (We're currently about type 0.8 ... we have a long way to go)

Gravity is one of 4 forces that constitute string theory. The other 3 "influence" the behaviour between particles just as much (relatively). String theory is comprised of 4 forces, and seeks the explain the behaviour of both micro and macro particles using a combination of the 4 forces

The article actually explains the propagation for laypeople better than I have seen over these pages. Not sure why there was so much difficulty understanding what is going on.

Then once we saw that the sun no longer existed (since the lighted had stopped reaching us) we would stop orbiting, since space-time would have reverted to a flat-state. Its cool, but also insane. It means technically speaking, we would orbit NOTHING for about 8 minutes.

Exactly this.

On topic: I thought that gravity traveling at light's speed was already know, or at least assumed to be very likely because of the relativity theory. Like doomlord52 said: we would only lose orbit around the sun the moment we receive no sunlight anymore.

Just the sine of the angle between the road and the horizon multiplied with 9.81 would be the additional acceleration you get, simple as that.

It hasn't been experimentally proven/confirmed.... and that what they are trying to do.

Also note, their results indicate that the speed maybe slightly slower or faster than speed of light/information.

Slightly slower implies that gravity itself has mass which is confusing. Slightly slower would mean that for practical purposes if the sun disappeared we'd lose light at virtually the same time as we lose orbit.
