Matx to ITX. Worth it? TJ08 to FT03 Mini

Thread Starter
Lately I've been bit by the Upgrade bug and I've been looking at small ITX systems and I'm trying to figure out if it is worth it.

I have a TJ08-E case with Crossfire 7870, I5 750,, 4 HDDs, Sdd, H60 and a 16gigs of ram.

I'm thinking of going to a single 7870, 2 HDD, SSD, 3470 or 3570k and, H60 SFX PSU.

I want to move into a

SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum / Steel Fortress Series SST-FT03B
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163197

My biggest issue is the trouble I would have to go through.
I have to get rid of 2 1tbs for a 2TB, Sell off my second 7870, then grab a new PSU,dvd drive and case. Thats all Before I get to the CPU and mobo

I also play over Eyefinity at 4800x900 with a 1080 tv as a extra monitor for Media or a game doesnt play nice over 3 screens(dark souls)

A single 7870 might struggle a little to consistently produce playable frame rates at that resolution. depending on game.

What is the outcome you are looking for? A nicer looking system, Faster, higher FPS?

Your suggested build is almost exactly what Im buildng shortly. Total system upgrades like you are suggesting come with a bit of pain and downtime. Its why most people only do it once every two or three years and tweak the system in between times.

I say go for it. It will be a good performing system. Your choice of case is excellent. Looks great, decent cooling for the size.

Agreed with dihartnell, going from dual 7870s to a single is going to really hamper you. Definitely get a newer and beefier card if you want your mITX machine to be more capable than your mATX one

I'm starting to think for the and vanity of it all.

If anything would a ITX version of what I already have be worth it. I might get the Matx Version of that case or a SG09.

The main thing for me is Size. as I'm downsizing.

This was the M-ITX mobo I was planning to use in my system. Its a powerhouse and the main reason I am building one. I just really wanted to have it, so I made the excuse.

Generally I find with Upgrades if you have to spend more than 5 minutes rationalising it you aren't ready for it. ;-).

The extra $300 is hurting this desicion. Plus I need to mess with single 7870 performance before I make that choice. If anything I might getting a Gene V and I5 with a SG09.

Though the thought of that nice looking case makes me want it.

Anyone other reasons for Mitx outside of space? Cost?

The FT03 can fit an MATX mobo and fit two GPus. Just get it and transfer your rig to it.

You can generally go really small form factor with MATX anyways. Not only that but you'll generally have 4 RAM slots and 4 expansion slots.
