Recommended motherboards for two Matrix 7970 Platinum cards

Hi,
I have bought two Matrix 7970 Platinum cards but am struggling to find a motherboard that can take them that leaves space between them for cooling. Can anyone with similar experience give me any recommendations. Price doesn't concern me as long as the wife doesn't find out.

Happy New Year to all.

Thanks for the reply, will that mobo give me any issues with placement ? Idid consider the Maximus V Extreme but I can't use the correct slots without jamming the cards together.

On the X79 platform, the Rampage IV Extreme and P9X79WS motherboards would allow you to fit two matrix cards with one slot spacing in between. These boards do allow for up to 3 triple-slot cards to be installed, but the third card would over hang the bottom edge of the motherboard and spacing would not be optimal..

You would also need a case with nine slots (for 3 triple-slot cards). As Asus is probably the most well known and prolific maker of triple-slot cards, their high-end motherboards tend to cater for them more than other brands.

The Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 looks like it would allow for two triple-slot cards to be installed with one slot spacing.

I would consider getting a different card and WC them, you will need a pretty high fan setting when OC'ing the card and its loud as hell. Another thing is that you have to be one of the lucky few to get a good OC on that card.. I'm pretty dissapointed with mine.. And last thing, the Asus GpuTweak is a joke..

This would work, but there wouldn't be much of a gap.The first card would go in the first blue PCIe x16 slot, and the second card in the white PCIe x16 slot. However, it may be a good idea to download the manual for this motherboard to see how (electrically) these slots are actually wired. My suspicion is that the first blue slot is x16, but if you use a second card in the white PCIe slot, both slots could then run at x8. This is more than sufficient bandwidth in the real world however, but something to be aware of nevertheless.

Also take into account that the second card would come very close to the on board power and reset buttons and might even interfere with the USB headers.

Thanks for your advice, very useful. I've also found the maximus v formula which offers the same. I think it's the widest I'm going to get. Don't know why they build these cards if they don't support them fully.
