should i buy xbox360? - Page 2

post #11 of 55
Hardware wise the PS3 has a little more to offer however i wouldnt say its any better. It will perform just aswel as the 360...If not worse.
post #12 of 55
I bought one last week, and I think it is the greatest thing ever lol. This will keep me away from my PC for months

The cell processor on the PS3 is a..well add an 0 in the middle of the P and the S and delete the three and you get the picture. Its actually one core with I beleive seven threads. A couple of those threads can be dedicated to calculating certain things like AI and physics...but its REALLY hard to program for. So we wont see a game that uses the processor to its full potential for a long while. Even if they used it at its full potential it wouldn't be much better, if it was better at all then the 360. I guess the 360 has three seperate cores that are all hyperthreaded...the processir in the 360 has a lot more bandwith...so...I guess we will answer this question fully a year down the road...when the PS3 has its one year Bday.

Xbox FTW! And yes....Gears of War is the most beutiful game over with EXTREAMLY fun gameplay

360: Three Core IBM PPC running at 3.2Ghz
PS3: 1 Main Core with 7 SMP(Synergistic Something Processors).

360 is great if you can get a bargain on it IMO but otherwise I'll stick to PS3 for now until those 360 price drops get into effect.

PS3 is much better, you will regret it, and for fun I would get the WII just because I already have a computer.

yes not only is the firmware hackable but they now have modchips for the 360 like they did the first xbox and it has just as many custom tricks for the controllers and box itself its not even funny..

No, but many of the features people modded for are available out of the box (i.e., not need for XBMC, the X360 is already a pretty good media device).

The theoretical numbers on paper make the PS3 seem like a monster compared to the X360. In reality however, those theoretical numbers are 100% unattainable; and the true day-to-day hardware power is more even than Sony wants you to believe. Developers often say that the X360 is much easier to program for, which also implies they will be able to squeeze more out of the X360 hardware than the PS3 hardware.

The PS3 will only be as powerful as the development API's are. The 360 already has a huge lead on performance tuning it's 3 core architecture. And the 360 supposedly has a slightly better GPU architecture. So, in theory, once the PS3 get's it's API's up to full speed, the 360 will already be several years ahead and M$ will already be touting it's next generation Xbox. M$ has the lead in design...currently.

But, then again, I will buy a specific console because of the types of games on it. I'll probably buy a Wii just because of Zelda and other great Nintendo hits. But, so far, I'm loving the 360's warfare games and the racing games.

Wait a few months until the Ps3 is being sold at Target and the 360 drops in price. Then make your decision based upon the game selection. If you can't wait, I would recommend the 360 at this point.

One more hought...the 360 offers a HD-DVD player. I don't know if Sony's Blu-Ray will take off. History shows it's not going to. Netflix is already renting HD-DVD's. And trust me...HD-DVD is AWESOME (If you have a good HDTV).

Im swinging toward a PS3 just becasue ive grown up on PS and PS2, madden always seems better on the playstation compared to xbox, im big on grandtheft auto, and thats about it. But im so used to the PS controller i dont know how using the xbox one will effect my gameplay.

the only thing making me want an xbox is gears of war, and Halo3

They are just different optical media. HD DVD And Blu-Ray are both HD movie formats. They both do 1080p but the HD DVD has True HD sound which I love. HD DVD players are cheaper IE HD DVD add on for the 360 is $200.. Stand alone HD players are 400-700 and BD players are $1000. The pic quality on HD DVD is better too, this is mostly because hd uses VC-1 encoding and BD uses mpeg2. All in all I think hd dvd will win this war. One of the big reasons being price but also hd can do combo disks with a hd dvd on one side and a dvd on the other. Blu-ray can't

If you love PSx games...then stick with the PS3. Just beware of Blu-Ray movies. If you buy movies in that format, you may end up with a bunch of useless disk's. in a nutshell:

* Blu-ray = more capacity
* HD-DVD = first to market
* Intel, M$ and Toshiba backing HD-DVD
* DVD manufacturers can manufacture HD-DVD without re-tooling. Blu-Ray is exotic.
* Last two SONY format's: Mini-disk and UMP both failed.

BUT! If the motion picture industry says they are going to use Blu-Ray more than HD-DVD, then none of the above info will matter. Blu-Ray will win. It's too close to tell ATM. Just beware.

Off note: What I find stupid is that movies aren't being released on magnetic disks. 50-100GB can be obtained on a single platter as large as a DVD (smaller actually). And this is only going to get denser as new recording tech changes. /RANT
