Underachieving Lappy??

Ok, my sister has a laptop she bought about a year or two ago and she keeps complaining that it goes slow. She mainly uses it for internet access and for loading pics from her digital camera. It is a Compaq Presario M2105US and has the Mobile AMD Sempron 2800+ . I looked it up and it supposed to be running at 1.6 ghz clock, but according to cpu-z, it is only running at 800 mhz (4x multiplier). Every once in a while the clock will jump up to 1600 mhz (8x multiplier). I think the voltage jumps up a little bit as well, but I don't remember.

Is there something that I can do to get it to run at 100% rather than 50%??

Thanks for looking

The cpu has speed step, that means when your not using it, it slows down to save power. If you start to run a intensive application, it will speed back up to normal. This is not a problem. If the laptop is going slow, i would suggest defragging the hard drive and then checking the processes under control-alt delete and turing off anything not needed

Interesting... is there a way to get it to run a tad faster when it is plugged into the power outlet?

My HP Sempron 2800 is the same. It runs at like 750 mhz but when you use cpu intensive programs it jumps to the full speed.

Try to run some cpun intensive programs then run cpu-z. Like mentioned before, its to save power
