It doesn't work that way. If you have scaling set on the display, the scaler will add lag. If you use scaling on the GPU it will have the same lag as the native resolution.

So there is literally nothing you can do to improve the input lag on a monitor?

Do you notice lag with S27B970D ?

Forgive me but I'm kind of confused why some would be comparing this to a 120hz TN monitor. Not even in the same world. It was never made for gaming. Sure the Korean made ones SAY 6m haha yet dont even come close.

If your into gaming stick with the 120..just saying

The prices are around $560 for the 850 and $800 for the 970.

Even If I was gaming, I could just turn down the res for lag free input?

I suppose that defeats the whole purpose of having the monitor aside from professional uses anyway

I bought 2 of the 970's before Christmas, both had terrible colors and backlight bleed. I have a replacement now that is fantastic, I use it for MMO's and a few other games but mostly for design work. If you're really worried about input lag then the 970 isn't the best option in my opinion. Yes I am comparing it to a 120 Hz TN panel with lower resolution and mediocre colors, but I've run both monitors back to back in TF2 and the difference is unbelievable.

I'd say look for a 24" IPS or PLS monitor and a 120 Hz TN gaming monitor. You should be able to get both for the price of the 970.

24" Samsung PLS 1920 x 1200

What did you use to check the colors?

I already have a tn 120hz screen, I was considering joining the 1440 ips club, and I dont play many fps games, mainly mobas so that's why I was looking at this monitor to upgrade to

If you're looking for a monitor for anything other than FPS I'd say the 970D is a good choice. The one I'm using now is working well and I've been playing Far Cry 3 on it because it looks so good. The extra screen real estate is great for mmo and moba games and the latency isn't a real issue. I do prefer the PLS monitors for gaming over IPS even if it means living with more input lag. The motion seems really clear on my Samsung when compared to my older Dell 2410.

I finally pulled the trigger and bought 2 of these. I've been using them for about a week. I am in love. I don't play fast past FPS games where the 60hz refresh rate might be a problem so I can't address that concern some of you have. In my opinion other than not having a standard mounting system they are perfect (if you don't mind the price).

Thanks to everyone that helped me on my monitor journey!

If the refresh rate is as bad as some people are saying I will be returning them... I currently use an Apple Cinema display (2560x1440) and I dont notice it.. and this thing has a better refresh then it.. so .... I can't wait for my 7680x1440 !!!!!
