How will I hook them up to my Phoebus?

Somehow i doubt the phoebus can run them as well as a proper DAC could, if at all.

You'd need a 6.3 -> 3.5mm adapter for that btw.

I was a mac fanboy for the last 4 years and only gamed on Xbox and ps3. I never heard or noticed razer till I started my new pc build. Now I have razer mamba mouse, razer nostromo and razer Tiamat lol. The other razer products I love. I even have a $19 mouse mat that's razer lol and its the best I've ever had.

The previous 3 razer purchases were good and the tiamat headset is another good product if you are looking for 7.1 true surround because it works! but the quality of the sounds just are not any good. A little tinny and light.

I'm going to get the HD800 but don't know if I should stick with the Phoebus sound card and if I need an amp or anything else? Hmmm

I have my Phoebus paired with Sennheiser PC360s and if your willing to put up the cash they sound incredible. The sennies do provide an exceptional sound stage do in part to the high quality drivers and open back design of the cups. That card has some serious oomph and paired with that headset its probably some of the best gear I've bought.biggrin.gif

I cant see how its a gimmick the 7.1 its says its the worlds first 7.1 headset set. and when i done the setup test i could distinctly hear the different drivers and you can see them too. but i do understand the drivers and the rest of gear is not the best but there is not any other true 7.1 headset available. so what do you do if you want positional awareness with gaming and not rock the house to death.
I have a Sony Muteki 7.2 hifi system is that any good? it cost me 900 aud and more than happy with it. i went to a hifi shop near me and they put a 5k hifi setup on for me and there is no comparison the 5k smashes mine and even sounds better than my local cinema lol. but where do you draw the line?
So you know what i have recommend the best headset for me. I dont care for music or movies on my computer.

You sounds very misinformed. You just spent 300-400$ on a setup that wont sound any better than a 100-150$ one, that's why most people here are facepalming right now. You should really return those products and do some research, there are so many better things out there for less than half the price.

Third, 7.1 on a headset is a gimmick, it's pretty much impossible to get 7.1 in headphones. I have heard they do exist but they cost a lot of money and I know for a fact Razer is not one of them.

Fourth, the mic's on these headsets are cheap, you could get the same quality from a $5 logitech.

@OP: I am taking it as you live in the US, as most people on their forum are. For the price of that headset you could have gotten a Sennheiser HD598, considered one of the best gaming headphones with a large sound stage.

I am not saying your choice in products is bad, if you find them great and an improvement over your last setup then good, but I would have consulted OCN or Headfi.org for a good pair of headphones and have gone with a desktop mic. Nevertheless enjoy the new setup thumb.gifsmile.gif

EDIT: Check this website out if you intened on returning your pair of razers smile.gif

I am misinformed and have little to no knowledge of sound systems & headphones and i have not ever claimed otherwise in any of my posts. Lol People here and other sites are mentioning DAC's i still dont understand what they are and why i may need one for a HD800? :S

What i have learned is Quality of Audio is very subjective and varies person to person. Im a person that would probably be happy with a $250 audio setup if i knew no different. But i hear other people claiming this is the best and that's **** so I'm intrigued and now i want the best. I'm like a little kid. I guess I'm making up for having an underprivileged upbringing.

My PC was designed by the members here on OCN and its pretty awesome im really happy with it. So lets see what we can do with my audio. i should have asked first and avoided all this. LOL

OK so now I have a ASUS Xonar Phoebus installed in my PC and im looking at the Sennheiser HD800 for the headphones. Ive read reviews that they are good and have a nice sound stage but will they be ok for gaming. Im guessing the will be. Now should i just plug them into the Phoebus with an adapter? or should i have one of these DAC things inbetween? lol i have a Yamaha HTR-6030 should i just plug the TOSLINK straight into it then the HD800 into it. Or just go another amp. I want a setup i can be happy with and just leave it and know its going to work for me.

Thanks for your help people!

I dont understand why you feel the need to purchase 1500$ headphones for use with a PC. Just get a pair of AD700 (or sennheiser HD598/PC360 if you feel that you need to spend some money) and you'll be fine.

And about «7.1», just keep in mind that a good surround emulation paired (like the one on your phoebus) paired with a good pair of stereo headphones will beat any multi-drivers headset (such as the tiamat).

How about the ASUS Xonar Essence One coupled with the Sennheisser HD800 headphones?

Does anyone have this setup?

Ive found them at 2 shops not far from me.
