ASUS Xonar Phoebus 7.1 + Razer Tiamat 7.1 Headset - Page 6

@hatlesschimp

well , a DAC is a (Digital to Analog Converter) that gets your music from your computer and converts its in analog , that way it can be amplified , and by amplify

why you need a Amplifier for your headphones ,( the Sens HD800 ) to hear them the way it should , you need 300 Ohms ( impedance ) for the rated specs (i thought it was 600)

below that , they wont perform as rated , meaning it will sound quieter

there are infinite brands of DACs and Amps available . i suggest you do some research but i suggest you take a look at their imputs , try to avoid USBs and look for the maximun impedance output

another suggestion , depending on your music style is what drives you to a certain headphone , u dont want some highs on your skrylix or you dont want your lows with your Megadeth , specially when the headphones cost 1k+ lol

OP, you actually have to go out and try some phones before making a decision. Blindly buying a 1K plus headphone and mating it with a turd of a soundcard is not a great idea. You need a high quality DAC and a high quality amp to get the most out of any higher end phones.
If you just going to be using your soundcard, save your money. Look at some senn 360's/363D's, they use Senn 598 drivers and the mic is excellent. Not sure why so many hate phones with mics but the senns are of great quality and the mic is fantastic. The 363D's even come with a usb soundcard and it does a excellent job at a virtual 7.1, though IMO, the tiamats to a better job at positions.
Regardless of what some other think, I don't find the AD700's to be anything special, sure they are good but to my ears, they are not great. AD700's are fairly cheap and because they are fairly cheap, they become popular with the crowds that are just getting into phones or someone looking for bang for the buck but they are by no means anything spectactular.
There will always be differing opinions and you can't really take anyones word for anything, you have to go try out some sets and see what you like.
I'd personally take the Ultrasone HFI-450 over the AD700's any day of the week and they are about the same price. Or look for a set of used AKG 702's

Actually i'm pretty sure that they uses HD 555 drivers.

Regarding AD700, they are popular among gamers because they offer a decent soundstage at a very low price point.

I think the 363's use the new 598 drivers. The 360 uses the 595 driver which is also the 555 driver. Mind blown.

Thanks for the clarification. +

i've read that a few different place that the 363d used the 598's. I just assumed the 360's were the same since I keep reading they are the same. I have both sets and they both sound very similar. The only difference is my 363D's only have about 16 hours on them and the 360's have over 300 hours easily.

Yeah I've teed up a trip to a shop 60kms from me to test some out. the only thing is my missus is going to want to come with me eeek! Why does she always want to come when im going to buy something and not when i doing some random chore lol I say to her you'll be board and she always like I don't mind. Lol now she will know how much I'm spending. I usually tell her like this only cost $120 bucks lol. I suppose she can't complain I bought her a Chanel bag for Christmas. I wish that was $120. 8-|

Anyways can't wait to try the headphones out and see what I think of them. Lol I just can't imagine they will be bad or that I won't be able to tell the difference between beats and hd800. The thing I'm going over in my mind is the price between hd800($1600), beyerdynamics t1($1100) should I save the 500 and go the beyerdynamics t1. Hmm I guess I will soon see.

What mic should I be looking at? Can anyone suggest one that they have?

Thanks guys with your help and patients. I'll go through later and dish out some rep points.

At this point, we all know he's going to get the most expensive one he can...
