[Build Log] Bitfenix Prodigy

Thread Starter
It is no surprise. I am a HUGE fan of Superman. I mean just look at my name Connor Kal-El Reeve. yes that is my legal name. It is one I was not born with but recently changed to other familial reasons so I leave it at that!

I recently built a Cosmos II gaming rig with all AMD parts, but now I have to sell due to space restrictions. So in my hunt, I found the Bitfenix Prodigy; rather it found me. It called my name... HAHA ok that didn't happen! I loved the asthetics of the Prodigy and the arctic white really caught my eye. drool.gif

So then I went to PPCS and had them customize it for me. I am not that great of a modder but I am a learner!

I loved it!!! The name Fortress of Solitude came to mind. My intentions are as follows; FoS will be white and pure like the planet Krypton but the interior will glow red like its sun. i think its off to a great start!

This is what I was thinking of in terms of parts:

I already have a Crucial M4 128gb SSD for my OS. I have a WD 2tb drive for games and I am getting 2 more for storage and movies. (all caviar black)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136792

I would prefer to get an AMD itx motherboard but with literally no choice of one I am going with an Asus:

i5 3570k
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504

To keep with the theme I have going:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709016

I Ultimately decided on this set of ram here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231489

Any feedback will be appreciated. its a shame I cannot get a motherboard that would match my theme. I decided with Asus after a lengthy review and process and found it to be my best overall choice in terms of what I come to expect.

I will have more pics and slight mods to come as they get done! Next up in a day or 2 will be my video card: Gigabyte 7970 Radeon HD card 3gb:

Well I am almost done with my video card. In the time being, I have sent my panels off to have windows put in. My windows will have this on both panels showcasing the motherboard area:

I was looking at the front panel that PPCS had modded for me when I ordered the case and i must say I am disappointed, I noticed there were small areas of the red paint chipping off on there own. I paid good money for custom work and I get a half ass job. I contacted them and the guy was like "Oh it must have been jostled around alot during shipping." Really? Wow is all I have to say...

So I did manage to find out what paint was used and I ordered that paint. Rust-Oleum -- Acrylic Enamel Gloss, code "248642 Gloss Red" OK great I will fix it myself. Last night, I took the panel off, took the bolts and screws off and I noticed and even worse crap job... The plastic that was painted the Fire Red looked like an amateur did an awful job cutting a square out in it. The square was cut to show the red under the Bitfenix symbol that was painted on the mesh. I will post pics later today showing what they did. The cuts were not even straight, and nothing was even sanded.

I am not complaining. I did pay for what was supposed to be something great. It is great though. And I do understand that once re-assembled, it will not be seen. Sigh... I guess its just the principal of the matter. I am just going to fix the paint, apply a protective coat of lacquer and be done with it.

thumb.gif I still love the case and the scheme I have picked out for it. More to come!

Excited to see this one! If you are interested in LED strips I would suggest modelersbrand. All of my LED orders have been through him and I have had no issues. thumb.gif

Wow they look great. I never soldered any wiring so it will be my first attempt if I do it. They would enhance the scheme I have going by putting them around my customs windows. Thanks for looking out! thumb.gif
post #5 of 199
If you go with the strips he has solderless connectors which work really well! Only thing I would suggest is using heatshrink around the connector thumb.gif
The are super bright too!

EDIT: I just realized how blurry this pic is...but you get the idea thumb.gif

Wow I guess they are bright biggrin.gif. I have white heatsrink coming in from MODDIY along with s\white sleeving for my cables, That looks so cool the way yours lights up as bright as it does and I can imagine the pics dont do it justice. I also ordered a backplate from TripTC for my video card. It will be red with the same window emblem i will have!

After looking at your pic, you should get a backplate from him as well

This is the UV strip. You can go cheaper if you use ebay and get that 5050 strip, but this stuff here is quality. That or I would recommend Bitfenix. All you do to wire up these LED strips is put a connector on the end and solder to a molex pass through
