If 100 or 2,000 people on OCN hack the thing, that won't help people who buy used games. There must be a HUGE base of people with consoles open to used games for local retailers or even eBay to have a wide enough selection for competition to offer fair prices. There are only a couple million jailbroken iPhones in USA after a wopping 5 years on the market. Wake up!
The only solution is to make sure SONY knows we will not buy this machine if they implement this nonsense.

Umm....no, not even close. Hasn't even been out 7 years. The PS3 has barely been out for 6 years, and it was hacked 3 years ago, so that's roughly 3 years after release, not "7"

What happens if your console breaks? Or perhaps the game disc will be linked to your playstation account?

Realistically its exactly what Xbopx Live does now when you purchase a full game via download, its linked to your Gametag, if you sing into another console you can download and play again...

There is no option to transfer it to someone else.

I could see this coming, physical game DVD's and Bluray discs can be used by anyone currently, and their digital distrubution is limitet to one accoutn, same with steam. Onky a matter of time really.

One would assume it would mean you would call up sony to fix that problem.

There is no chance in hell Sony is going to implement that , it would be suicide , the only way they could pull it off is if MS does the same thing with new Xbox than people would have no choice.

I also feel like developers should be entitled to some portion of the profit from used game sales, however, albeit nothing outrageous. I don't think that this is directly comparable to used car sales and the like, however. With a used car (or any tangible property) you are getting a product that is not as good as it was when it was new, and will likely have things go wrong well before an identical but new model. With software, it doesn't matter how old it is when you buy a used copy. The lines of code work just as they did when it was brand new and always will.
With used cars, eventually, they will fail and need to be replaced new. That is not the case with software and theoretically could result in a situation where used copies circulate in the market indefinitely, completely cutting out the developers from making any money off of their product.

I think they aren't entitled to ANY revenue form used sales unless they make those sales themselves. Why should Gamestop or an eBay seller have to fork over their money to a developer who's been paid for that product once already? Like the EC ruling states, the right to restrict the terms of sale for a licence are over on the first sale.

What needs to happen is publishers need to open up their own used game markets and offer better rates than places like gamestop and so on. That way, they make 100% of the profit on those used game sales, rather than making none. Instead, they're wasting money alienating people making sure they can't sell their games.

Linking the games to the PS4 hardware = terrible idea.
If hardware dies, you are left with all your games being no good and probably wont buy another playstation again...

Linking the games to PS account = great idea.
If hardware dies or if discs break, the game would still be tied to your account... perhaps re-download the game like you can with steam. thumb.gif
I got used to having my games tied to my account a long time ago with steam. Time for this to happen on consoles as well.

Why should it be illegal? Buying the game gives you a license to use it. You don't purchase ownership of the game, you purchase a license to use the game, that's it. That's the way it always has been. Don't like it? Don't buy it.
Its no different than if I license someone to use my photos. They can use them, but they can't give them to someone else to use. Intellectual property laws are different from laws governing tangible property.

whatever it is, you purchased something right? it should be transferable/resellable like everything else you own, why not? because they are greedy, that's why.

right now they are only doing this with softwares, but what is next? what if in the near future they decide that they will be no longer sell electronics, instead they will be selling "licenses" to use those? you can no longer sell your used TVs, refrigirator, computer, etc. because you don't own them in the first place, you only own the license to use them.
