I really doubt it.

A majority of people think you need to spend at least $2000 to get a PC that can play games. If I thought that, then I would rather pay $400-$500 for a console that can't play used/borrowed games than spend $2000 on a PC.

With the US justice system as it is (bias towards corporations) nothing is going to change, therefore it is still going to be illegal to resell copyrighted material.

Actually yes. I don't want to get political, but the 9th Circus Court is the most overturned court in US history. The appeal is expected to go against them once again.

...That would be like saying I decide to but a brand new car....3-4 years later I want/need to change cars....I sell my car to someone and get my money and then go buy a new car.

The car manufacturer doesnt make a penny on my used car sale. Could you imagine if this logic was brought into a larger scale such as this....

The only thing I will say about this though is that with PC's its pretty much already like this....Once I buy a game I typically have to register that key with Steam, Origin, Uplay ETC...I cant trade the game off later or sell it later. The advantage with PC's games though is that you usually see deeper discounts on games quicker than their console counterparts....

Sony's PlayStation 3 experiences its biggest hack yet

A hacker group finds a secret set of codes that can decrypt the PlayStation 3's Level 0 security layer - the holy grail of secrecy within Sony's console.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57539756-1/sonys-playstation-3-experiences-its-biggest-hack-yet/

That's the reason why Sony goes dictator, lol. lachen.gif

I loved my PS2, but I never saw the need to buy a PS3. Now that I have more time/money on my hands, I was considering waiting for the PS4. If this is implemented, I will certainly not be buying one now.

More of the media spinning the hate machine against SONY... MS has had this in the works for the Xbox 720 since last year January....
No one complained... SONY does it and the world is ending.
Quote:
The other claim is quite odd however, that the 720 will have some sort of measures in place restricting gamers from playing used games on the console. There’s no further information on what exactly that might mean, but Kotaku speculates that games could be tied into a specific Xbox Live account, or something of that nature.

PS3 isn't bad. I definitely got more mileage out of my PS2, though.

I won't be buying a PS4 regardless. I'm going to try my luck with the PC gaming lottery for this generation, we'll see what happens. tonguesmiley.gif

Welcome to the internet.
This has been discussed many time last year and reports indicate it will be BOTH Sony PS4 and XBox 720 to implement some of these measures. But as the reports point out, it's not a FACT yet and they may just want test public reaction to such things to see what type of feedback they get. If it's going to hurt their bottom line, they won't do it.

As to hacking it or somehow getting around it, this won't be something easily done. Take for example Satellite and Cable DVR boxes. Many, such as DirecTV DVR have encrypted recordings and their hardware is tied together. The serial number of the box is encrypted and put on the hard drive in a file. If you try to take the drive out and put it into another unit it will fail. You can't copy shows in HD or elsewhere because they are encrypted and the ports are HDCP protected too. The only way to do a copy is to put the receiver in Standard Definition mode and use a DVD recorder, VCR or PC capture card to record it in real time while playing back.

The reason I bring this up is because this method will most likely be what Sony and Microsoft do as well in regard to tying serial numbers to equipment and encryption. It forces you to spend more money, but what they don't realize or care about is how it impacts those buying their equipment. I would guess that most will require some sort of "cloud" account to store your saved games. That way you can just re-download your games and get your saves from the cloud as well.

Both systems they say will require a full time high speed internet connection to work, so I am guessing some of this is the reason why.
