Yeah, on the highest level this is about increasing profits. But the people actually proposing and developing this software are doing it to save entire genres from obscurity or extinction. Most people in the gaming industry are in it because they love seeing their work, their concepts, their brainchild, come to life.
You're fighting this without considering the price of winning.
P2P games are losing traction as well. F2P is gaining. If the current model cannot be adapted to increase profit margins, single player games will all be turned into MMOs. Look what happened to KOTOR.
If the corporatist attitude is having people actually pay you
for the years of hard work that you put into something you loved rather than telling me "good job" while getting the game in a way that doesn't benefit you and actually jeopardizes your job, call me a corporatist.
Great Scott. Anonymous namedropping and an arguement for the same salary as nurses and teachers!... (look up Love for work or "calling" and see what you get)
If single palyer games are being replaced by MMOs and F2P as you fear shouldn't the response, if we assume that we live in a free world with a free market be making single player games more attractive? not punitive? This is just hypotetichal but let's say Ford implements a no resale technique in all their sedans? wouldn't people just move away from ford?
I'm talking about the second hand market, Sonys sales will drop because kids can get the same game for xbox for half the price. You might not like it but the world doesn't care.
This might seem excessive but I Assure you it's not:
If you like your game so much why don't you marry it?
If you love your job so much why can't you accept minimum wage?
Yeah it's national economy baby.:
If it's a desired occupation:
If it's fullfilling work:
If employees see it as a calling:
Pay them less! Nuff said.
Don't go arguing economics from a lovers stance.
