I'm playing quite a lot of Dota 2 with girls.
Maybe she'll like it ;-)

Dota 2 can be pretty intimidating for people to just jump into.

Awesomenauts, however, is not, and it's still a Dota style game.

Only one recommendation for Minecraft? sheesh!

If she loves the lego games (I've never actually played one.. but I assume they have lego-ish mechanics?) then she'll love minecraft.

They don't. Think of your typical Hollywood slapstick/spoof storyline, acted out with Lego characters in a Lego world, with sub-par Third person shooter mechanics.

The reason for this is that Lego games aren't focused on the building with Lego parts, but rather like you said the storyline. Minecraft has no true storyline, and would be more recommended to someone who likes to build with Lego or K-nex. I think I see now why more people didn't recommend it.

My wife and I used to play a lot of Diablo 2 back in the day, and we both got Diablo 3 and were pretty unimpressed by it. Now we play Torchlight 2 together. It's much cheaper and we both think easier to get into. Titan Quest (and the expansion) as cheap on Steam and offer co-op. TQ is like Diablo Greece/Rome/Eqypt.

Please note: Torchlight 1 doesn't have co-op, but TL2 does. Also, you don't need to play TL1 to understand TL2.

i really wouldn't ruin her opinion of the diablo franchise like that... if anything have her play D2. D3 is NOT a proper successor to one of the most loved IP's in the world. if you really want her to enjoy diablo style gaming get her torchlight2 or get path of exile. please do NOT ruin her impression of ARPG with D3...

besides i'm sure any OCN members would be happy to kick you in the nuts twice if you paid them $120 biggrin.gif

Orcs Must Die! 2 since there is co-op and it is a really fun tower defense game
A starter FPS I would suggest Counter Strike: Global Offensive instead of L4D2 since she can play against bots at first, to get a feel for the game. (IMO killing bots can be a lot more fun than getting mad at PvP)
another puzzle-style game I absolutely love right now is Scribblenauts Unlimited

L4D is coop though, unless you play versus. I have seen more players who openly identify as women playing L4D than any other shooter I play, although that number is still low.

I think L4D is a great idea.

Bastion is good, there is a game called Aquaria which is neat, she might like Freelancer, as there is a story component, also I would say Fallout 3/Oblivion/etc. as I know a lot of women who like those games.

EDIT: Torchlight 2.

Torchlight 2 is an awesome recommendation, I forgot about it. Single player, multiplayer, items give a cosmetic change to your character, and that's fun for anyone male or female when you get things like....

A GARGANTUAN SPLATTER CANNON.... AT LEVEL 6....

And the multiplayer community is still growing. Torchlight 2 just passed the 1 million sales mark after three months, and it's still cleaning out the charts. So you can always find a game when friends are being lazy slobs, whining about at least 6 good hours of sleep and what not.

Pets. Fuzzy pets that you can name.

Torchlight 2 is an awesome game to get her.
