Dell 2711 vs 2713HM

Thread Starter
Hello, I'm a software developer and have been debating between these two monitors. They are currently on a small sale from dell the 2711 is offered at $650 while the 2713HM is being offered at $700. Is the 2713HM worth the extra $50 over the 2711?

I see a 200 dollar difference. The 2711 = Model 2011 and 2713= Model 2013 i believe. Not much different otherwise.

From what I can tell, the 2711 is a better buy. It has a Media reader as well as 6ms refresh compared to 8ms of the 2713. Other than that they look virtually the same.

On another note, the 2711 is $350 off while the 2713 is only $100 off.

The U2713HM buzzes when displaying large amounts of text (weird, but hey) and also has a crosshatch diagonal pattern that some people can see easily. Google either of those and you'll find plenty of details. And image retention, almost forgot that one.

Crosshatching is usually the result of a poor AG coating or application of such, not likely to be an issue on every unit. AH-IPS panels all suffer from burn-in to a certain degree, that's what LCD conditioning is for. Can't say about the buzz but I doubt that's an issue on every unit too.

Hey. Im am writing on an 2713HM right now and i had an 2711 before, so i might can help.
At the time, where i bought this monitors they both had the same price. Now the 2713 is slightly cheaper in my region.
The 2711 is a really solid, high quality monitor! The only reason i returned it was his strong AntiGlare.
But it is very bright has a robust stand and has a wide garmut (if this is intererresting for u).
On the other hand the 2713HM's stand is a bit wobbly, it has always bit of Blacklightbleeding in the lower left corner and i see this diagonal pattern as well. I've found a picture of it. http://i46.tinypic.com/2h6vhjl.jpg
It is best to describe it as a moireeffect or something like that. Its only in the lower half of the screen and has definitly something to do with the AG-coating. If u onces recogniced it u see it all the time, so the 2713 is going back as well!
LCD-conditioning wont work, i tried it!
I'm one step ahead from trying a yamakasi korean screen but there are so much bad reviews ^^

Conclusion: In my opinion 500Euro for that bad AG-coating is to much. If you aint sensitive to such things they are good monitors.

btwn the 2 i would pick the newer model. 24W power usage, usb 3.0, LED... u2711 has not had the best reviews over the years. it has the worst input lag of any monitor (not that that should bother you) and AG coating is said to be too aggresive... and power usage is a little much.
the u2713 is still new and probably still needs one or 2 revisions to perfect it...and being an LED monitor it is gonna be cheaper than the u2711.. (just like the u2412m became cheaper than the u2410)..

LED vs. CCFL shouldn't be a huge issue. If anything CCFL gives better color reproduction. Definitely a bit of an orangish hue though compared to LED, but LED backlighting is a bit blue. Electricity costs are comparatively negligible for this comparison, most people who drop 500+ on a monitor don't care about $2-10 worth of electricity a year.

I can't comment on input lag. I have a u2711 in front of me and it seems alright, though I'm not much of a hardcore gamer.

My current struggle with the u2711 is getting it to run at native res with my laptop(which only has VGA and HDMI) instead of 1080p. I will be playing around with settings in due time and trying an HDMI 1.3 cable.

I have to disappoint you. The only way to get the 2560x1440 resolution is with a D-DVI cable.
