[PCGAMER] Top PlanetSide 2 Player Criticizes Focus on Kill/Death Ratios - Page 3

The focus on KDR has been a problem in MP FPS's for ages. There's a reason why in most FPS's that TDM is the most played and all the other servers running more fun, team orientated game modes are left near empty. I got so tired of the repetitive nature of focusing on kills by everyone that I rarely play any MP FPS games anymore. It truly is pathetic when a mate and I can run into a 64 player BF3 rush or conquest server and be the only ones actually pushing to the objective and turn the tide. Two guys vs. a 32 player team......

I also find it amusing that with the latest COD games they've been trying to put more of a focus on team play with some of their game modes but the general player base just ignore it and continue with TDM and continue the monotonous KDR cycle. I just can't help but think of the little speech Vaas from Far Cry 3 gives you, "Did i ever tell you the definition of insanity" in regards to it all.

I don't see why Planetside 2 should be any different.

I think I see where you are going with this Mbalmer. Yes, that would be fun but it doesnt negate the tank spam or Lib farming.

Your idea is good if the bases had better defences and where defendable otherwise it would be the same farm-fest on a smaller scale.

As too K/D ratio, it doesnt guide how I play. I mainly play support (medic / engineer) so my K/DR is naturally low. Does that bother me.. nope. smile.gif

I pay attention to my KDR so I can better myself. I enjoy the gameplay, the kills are just part of that.

I agree that vehicles are far too used and far too overpowered. If you remove my deaths from vehicles, I'm at about 15:1 KDR, but total KDR is about 3.5:1 due to the lolzephyr and loldalton farming.

I'm still going to play, because I love the game, but I would like to see a huge increase in vehicle costs. Galaxies, for example, should be 700 air resources, ESFs should be about 550, MBTs should run around 600 vehicle resources, etc and all of the acquisition timers should be tripled at the minimum. Make vehicles less of a requirement to compete and the game will get 100% better.

I could care less about my kdr, but I would like to get some certs for upgrades.

to be fair, he does talk about certs being a major reason behind it, and the fact that KDR is pretty much the best way to earn certs, the two go hand in hand. The more kills you get and the more kills you get in a streak will ultimately earn you certs faster/easier than doing anything else, and that's pretty much straight up stupid for a game where the lore emphasizes the fact that no one ever really dies thanks to the rebirthing technology and the fact that the objective of the game is controlling territory, not farming kills.

Hypocrite.

The fact that he (or anyone) might play to farm certs is not the fault of the player, its the fault of the game, because that's essentially what the game encourages you to do. And because its the game's fault, he's not being hypocritical, just honest. Stop being jealous.

Right now the game is set up to where you're supposed to capture and hold points, but there's very little personal reward for playing that way. On the flip side there's a ton of reward for milking the kill-fest cert farms in locations like Biodomes and exploiting massive vehicle convoys to pin down and camp average pub infantry.

the only way he would be a hypocrite is if SOE actually takes him up on his suggestion by shifting cert gain balance away from kills in favor of capping/defending territory and playing support roles as well as reducing emphasis on KDR stats (if not eliminating it entirely), but he then continues to just go for kills and ignore the greater objectives then and only then would he be a hypocrite.

This game has turned into one giant "farming simulator" in my humble opinion.

Some people really find it fun to sit in a game holding down the heal vehicle button or the paddles for hours.

I feel that one of the biggest reasons for this is that there isn't much motivation to care too much about territory and who runs what. If there was more of a personal investment into each station then maybe people would be willing to look past K/D. M.A.G. for PS3 comes ti mind for me because defending objectives was so much more intimate.

If players could pull together and beef-up the place they captured (little auto-turrets, user-deployable walls, share-able turrets, auto-AA, means of quickening respawn of players/vehicles, more significant ticket regeneration(with tickets being incredibly sparce by default), etc#) then people would care but when the only thing that changes is the secondary color of the building and the only thing that you have to lose is your life nothing matters. The only thing that changes is whether you're shooting in or out.

Couldn't be more true.

There isn't any meta game. The incentive is to get certs so you can get more weapons.

Buzzcut is just a butthurt crybaby because he wasn't even first or 2nd to BR100. I'd also say he's far from a "Top" player when he runs around with 3 or 4 dedicated medics or engineers repairing his max.

When fights in PS2 can be won by sheer numbers and relatively few if any bases are truly defensible by a smaller force, why is anyone surprised the game is a zergfest and farming becomes a huge priority?

Anyone who enjoys taking empty bases "HURR FOR MEIN EMPIRE" or hacking all the terms in empty bases should probably go play an RTS.

Even in PS1, which thrived far after people had achieved max levels, was all about getting a good fight. You can't have a great fight in PS2, outside of maybe a biolab, because the base and map design is terrible. Small groups cannot be dangerous. 10 man teams used to be able to sneak in the back door of bases, blow and hold the gen. There is no equivalent. Just zerg.
