Overall CPU usage never goes above 29%, but individual cpu/thread usage will bump up to 98%.  Looks like I can still run CPU tasks alongside MilkyWay, as long as I set affinity, to make sure that the CPU tasks don't hit the GPU threads.

*Edit*  After setting affinity and limiting Asteroids to 8 tasks, everything looks stable and the run-times on the GPU tasks are consistently at 1:27-1:33 per task.

Well he's Claiming he's running 4x.....

Well I've gotten a bit tired of tinkering.... Ive got my dual 7970's at 106 seconds average (1:46) at 4x, and the 7990's are at 110 seconds average (1:50) at 4x.

One thing I can see, the few machines running faster have more cores in the CPU than mine do.... Mostly 12 core i7's and a Ryzen that reports as a sixteen core. I think that is where the speed increase is coming from...

Time to let them run for a while and see how they settle in... (times will probably increase a bit)

7970's are faster than the 7990's but you get twice the WU's for the few seconds...

I've now got to get the 14.9 drivers installed on the other four machines before I switch over....

I decided to fiddle around with this system a little more. First up was to see if the new app likes my old clocks, and so far the early testing, after about 40 tasks, looks to be stable.

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

Drivers: 17.3.3

CPU Clock: 3792MHz

GPU Clocks: 1250MHz core, 1550MHz memory

CPU Clock: 3792 MHz

Running four tasks  per GPU, runtimes have been reduced with the higher GPU clocks, and are currently sitting at 1:20 - 1:24 seconds per task, with some outliers above and below those times.

For a reference point I ran some single tasks, and the average of those tasks is :32 per task.

If you want me to change some things and do some testing let me know @Egilman.  I am going to leave this system on Windows for a little longer to iron out any issues.

My FuryX won't run but three tasks. The Pentium is the bottleneck. But it's running them in 1:07 at stock.

Now it's running them in 47 seconds.

Thank you my friends. I just got back from the hospital where my wife just spent 11.5 hours in surgery... She made it ok.

That's where I've been at as that is more important than this.......

I think as I've looked over the info presented, I think it warrants taking a shot at the 17.x.x crimson drivers, cause that appears what your using.

Willing to do a bit of experimenting and HAF II had bluescreened on me sometimes in the last hours. so I can't say the 14.9 drivers are actually stable there...

Willing to try anything right now....

Please allow me a day or so to work out some details and try crimson on this and see what I get....

But it's your hardware so if you need to shift it around do what you have to do....

Thank you my friends....

Real Life is always more important than BOINC. Take care of the SO.

Best wishes on a full and speedy recovery.

I'm going to keep the 7970s rolling on Windows for awhile, so once you have time to do some testing I can give you a hand trying out some different configurations.

I haven't tested the latest drivers, but FWIW I saw increased performance in a number of OpenCL apps, on various AMD GPUs, with drivers 17.2.1 and newer.

Thank you my friend, Last night I installed 17.4.3 (latest version) and yep it runs faster.

But I also think I lost a card in the process. It's locked itself at 500 clock and won't adjust.

Will have to swap it out later tonight and see it that's true.

Another thing, my cards reject your clockings, won't run at all at those settings...

Anything over 1200 core and the driver bails.

But I"ll deal with that later....

Time to go to the wife. she wasn't feeling too well when I left last night and I hope she is feeling better today...

Well, what a day. I guess I lost two 7970's yesterday. the first when HAF II bluescreened, and the second when I took card #2 out of Haf I to test in HAF II

Both of them as soon as the power hits them they shoot to 103 degrees and shut down.

Heck of a month, first a 7990 and now two 70's so I guess I'm into doing some reconfiguring here.....

I have another 7970 and two MSI 780 maxwell's in the closet.

Time to break them out....
