You were much help! Thanks! My current set up died on me earlier this week and I needed to put together a quality set up and Quick. I figured if i was gonna get a new one, I might as well go all out since its gonna last me lol. Also I know this isnt the place to ask this, but I dont wanna start another thread just for this. Im pairing up the 2 7970's with a i7 3930K. I assume this set up should be water cooled?

And I will Let you know, because that sounds like it would help a lot.

sounds like a good set,

watercooling will be your quietest and most "efficient" setup.

and

http://clbenchmark.com/compare.jsp?config_0=11905561&config_1=13067078

^ left side is what the 7970 scores, right side is what the tesla scores

technically the 7970 murders the tesla, but tesla uses ECC ram, so its more... "stable"

edit:

I think the choice is clear:

my last few questions (for now lol) are as follows:

- i was told that these programs use nvidia's CUDA cores better than ATI's stream technology? is this true or did i get the wrong info?

- so judging by what yu mentioned about the benchmark comparison to the tesla; buying a Quadro or firepro card for the same price range wont be worth it for the power/cost ratio?

lol yuve help me so much, is there a way to give you an upvote like in Reddit?

I generally use AutoCAD, Rhino w/ Vray to render, 3ds Max, ecotect, Adobe Photoshop, illustrator, indesign. I might start to branch out into other rendering programs as well.

I use AutoCAD, 3ds Max & Photoshop on a daily basis & I can honestly tell you that the 7970 or 680 will be fine for those & the other apps you are using thumb.gif
Now if you want the best workstation gpu, it will always be a workstation gpu because of it's specific drivers specifically for 3D rendering thumbsupsmiley.png

Gaming GPUs can do the job but will never (at least now) perform fast like a workstation GPU regarding to 3d rendering.

hmm, even then 580 would be a better choice than a 680.

if you could do a quick search on nvidia vs amd or ati, on each program, you might be able to get a better overview,

- Adobe Photoshop, illustrator, indesign. <- however, are more computer ram heavy than anything.

Between the 2, there will barely be a noticeable performance difference when rendering at real time when he uses those 3D programs.
