Looking for a new sound system

Thread Starter
I've been using a cheap 20$ USB headset for a while and I think it's about time for an upgrade.

I am looking for an entirely new sound system, with a sound card, headphones, and a microphone.

I would like the spend between 100-150 USD. My musical tastes are pop, rap, dubstep, electro, and house. I want to have decent bass or better. I don't care if the headset is open or closed, as long as it doesn't leak so much sound that it can reach my mic. Also, due to my clicky keyboard, I would like the mic to be attachable or integrated with the headset if possible. Also, I would like the cups to be soft and plush because I wear glasses. I currently do not have anything that can work with the set-up I'm looking for except for my on-board sound card (which is obviously crap). I will mostly be using this for gaming and listening to music occasionally. This set-up will be used on the rig described on my profile. I live in Texas, United States and I would like to buy this entire system together on either Amazon or Newegg if possible.

Thanks, Jason.

After reading it, I'm planning on getting the Superlux 668B (On sale for 51$ on Amazon), the Creative Xtreme Gamer, and the AntLion ModMic.

There are 2 Creative Xtreme Gamers on Amazon, which one would you reccomend?

Bump, can I get confirmation that this would be a good sound system and clarification on which sound card I should get?

Hi, my budget has increased to ~225$ over the past couple of weeks and I am considering this build, any advice would be welcome.

Headphones: http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-AD700-Open-air-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B000CMS0XU
Microphone: http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATR2500-USB-Cardioid-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B004QJREXM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1356627161&sr=1-1&keywords=Audio+Technica+ATR-2500
Sound Card: http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Sound-Blaster-XtremeGamer-70SB073A00000/dp/B000J1F1BI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1357323907&sr=1-1&keywords=creative+xtremegamer

Again, I'm not sure which sound card is the one that I should get, so if somebody could refer to my second post and tell me, that would be fantastic.

Thanks.

Take a look at the Asus Xonar DX

I would not like to spend over 50$ in a sound card unless it is extremely recommended. Do you think that the ASUS Xonar DG would be acceptable or do you insist on getting the DX?
they are very similar DG is PCI DX is PCI-E both have a good sound superior to the creatives card

You mention that you like relatively bass heavy music, but then you go with one of the headphones known for their relative lack of bass?

It sounds like you've been doing a bit of research, and the AD700 are known to be great gaming headphones, I just wanted to point that out to you in case you didn't already know. The superlux 668b and samson sr850 are also great choices if you're on a bit more of a budget.

Also, if you were looking for a boom mic, the antlion is quite good, even if it is temporarily not available. That AT mic looks fine, but I don't know much about it personally. I would also look at the blue snowball, samson CO1u, samson go mic and the behringer c1u around the same price range.

Good luck man smile.gif.

Your first paragraph is true, but if I wanted to listen to music, I would use my phone with some earbuds (which have good bass), otherwise I would be gaming with this system, and I have been debating whether or not to get the Antlion, which I do plan on buying now.

Also, I'll swap out the Creative sound card with the ASUS DG.

Thanks for the tips everybody, I plan on buying this system today and I'll post my results here when they arrive.
