Quad Core Why?!

Ok.

So, there's a Dual Core HTT processors, right? So, thats 4 threads. And yet they are releasing a 4 core chips. Now, take the Core 2 performance out of the equation and what do we get. Pointless. Why are they doing 4 cores when we already have quad threaded processors? Please, dont hang me for this, but I see it as being quite pointless.

Three for folding and one for gaming. I also heard on TGdaily that they were decreasing in price.

That hasn't answered my question. Why dont they just implement HTT on Core 2. 4 threads without the massive heat.

Because its not the same thing. Hyperthreading is like thread prioritizing. Ever compare Pentium 4 with a Pentium D? Theres a significant difference, and its almost an apples to apples comparison.

Still, it would almost undoubtably make it cheaper (dual core with HTT), but still, I dont believe it would be comparable performance in applications that can take advantage of 4 threads.

There is a good point to sticking with dual core if your gaming though, various gaming benches seem to state that the higher clock of a X6800 beats out the 2 extra cores in the Kentsfield because the Kentsfield cannot effectively utilize the more plentiful, but slower, cores.

Finally, Hyperthreading is a pentium term, something Intel is trying to get away from, so I doubt youll see it again.

Because the Speedstep technology which found on almost Pentium CPU line involves long stage-pipeline (31) which also mean that once a instruction going through the main computing core there is also unused resource that the instruction doesn't take up all that can be reused as a second "thread" for another instruction in.

The new Core architecture doesn't have long stage-pipeline (only 14) but can decode 4 instructions per clock (vs 3 in the earlier architecture) so more can be packed and executed right away.

If you are talking about hyperthreading its not on the core 2's because that only works with the pentium 4 architecture using the redundant areas in the cpu. If you are talking about something else then, uh I don't know what you are talking about lol.

Why get a pentium D when you can have a P4 with HT?
