Why are they doing 4 cores when we already have quad threaded processors? Please, dont hang me for this, but I see it as being quite pointless.

Well first I think yould have to use a HT CPU and a dual core CPU to understand the differance, but seeings how you have an amd system instead, Ill put this simple, 4 real cores are much much more efficient(processing wise) then 2 cores with hyper threading. Also for the professional user the quad core would crunch much faster with all 4 cores going then a dual core with HT going. Yes the quad core would run hotter but the processing power would make up for that. Besides the quad core isnt for every Tom Dick and Harry, its for those that want to spend the most for bragging rights, and for those that will actualy use its full potential( you know the crunchers and the guys that make CG movies)

It's not off topic. He's telling you exactly why Core 2 Duo doesn't have HyperThreading Technology.

quad core procs are for video editing, mathematical applications and 3d design that is there intended purpose there is still applications that can slow down even the fastest proc.I mean think about a two minute video in 1 second frames thats 120 frames right there that need to be edited in step to make a finished product. So quad core has its rightful place in the computing world, just remember not everything is made for gamers some ppl actually use computers for practical applications. Not to worry i would never dream of such a thing.psshhht not gaming why even have a computer

Games will soon be taking advantage of multiple cores also.
